The new generation, in a black finish, is made from 3 mm laser-cut, folded aluminium, 1.2 kg lighter and stiffer than the previous model.CompatibilityIt is designed for Planar 1, Planar 2, Planar 3, Planar 6 and many older Regas. Simple screw-fit adaptors are available for earlier RP8 and RP10 models. It does not suit the current Planar 8 and Planar 10, for which Rega offers a separate, smaller bracket.

Rega Planar 8 Black + Neo PSU

An affordable NaiadThe Planar 8 is not simply an evolution of the RP8. Rega designed it from scratch to capture the essence of the Naiad, its experimental reference turntable, in a far more accessible class. The result is a skeletal, ultra-light turntable with the RB880 tonearm and the Neo PSU MK2 power supply, supplied without a cartridge, in matt Polaris grey. The outer frame of the RP8 has been replaced by a single-piece removable dust cover, reducing mass even further. It is hand-built in England.Triple-layer platter and main bearingThe platter consists of three layers of glass of different thicknesses, bonded under pressure. Most of its mass sits at the rim for a strong flywheel effect, while the lighter centre reduces load on the bearing. The platter rests on a sub-platter machined from a single piece of aluminium, with a hardened steel spindle running in a brass housing.Choosing a cartridgeWithout a factory-fitted cartridge, the Planar 8 can be paired with the Rega Nd7 and Nd9 (MM) or the Ania Pro, Apheta 3 and Aphelion 2 (MC). For moving coil cartridges Rega recommends phono stages such as the Aura MC. Among other awards, the Planar 8 has been named What Hi-Fi? Rega Planar 10 Black & P10 PSU

Inspired by the NaiadThe Planar 10 belongs to Rega's Reference series and is inspired by the Naiad, the company's laboratory turntable. According to Rega it is the first production turntable to use ceramic bracing, which provides an exceptionally rigid mount for the RB3000 tonearm and the custom main bearing. This version comes in matt Polaris grey, with the PL10 PSU power supply, and is supplied without a cartridge. It is hand-built in England.Main bearing and dust coverThe low-mass sub-platter is machined from aluminium and carries a hardened tool steel spindle running in a custom brass housing. The assembly is mounted so as to limit the energy stored in the plinth. As on the Planar 8, the outer frame has been dropped in favour of a single-piece removable dust cover, for even lower weight.Cartridge and systemThe Planar 10 pairs ideally with Rega's Apheta 3 or Aphelion 2 moving coil cartridges and a phono stage such as the Aura MC. Rega recommends amplifiers such as the Aethos and Osiris. It has received accolades from Stereophile, Hi-Fi Choice (Editor's Choice), Hi-Fi World (Best Turntable 2020) and What Hi-Fi? (5 stars).

RP8 and RP10 technology in a more accessible formThe Planar 6 succeeds the award-winning RP6 and is Rega's first turntable with a Tancast 8 foam core plinth. It takes the ideas behind the RP8 and RP10, namely an ultra-light yet rigid base, a matched motor and a separate power supply, and brings them to a price class where, according to Rega, its performance exceeds its cost. This version comes in matt Polaris grey with high-gloss black edge trim, together with the RB330 tonearm and the Neo PSU MK2 power supply, without a cartridge. It is hand-built in England.Platter, sub-platter and feetThe platter consists of two layers of float glass, one smoked and one clear, bonded under pressure, as on the RP8. It sits on a sub-platter machined from a single piece of aluminium and carefully balanced. A wool felt mat is included; it is anti-static and does not stick to records. The feet are aluminium with an elastomer insert to isolate the turntable from the surface it stands on.Cartridge choice and systemWithout a factory-fitted cartridge, the Planar 6 leaves the choice to you: it pairs ideally with the Rega Nd5, Nd7 and Nd9 (MM) or the Ania, Ania Pro and Apheta 3 (MC). Depending on the cartridge you will need an MM or MC phono stage, such as the Rega Fono MM MK5 and Fono MC MK4, or an amplifier with the matching input.
