Warm Audio WA-87 R2

Warm Audio WA-87 R2

INTRODUCING AN UPDATED AND UPGRADED '87 STYLE FET CONDENSER MICROPHONE WA-87 R2: Updated And Upgraded In 2016, we at Warm Audio introduced one of the most talked-about 87-style FET condenser microphones in the industry with the release of the WA-87, and at just $599 USD it made the looks and authentic vintage sonics of this style of mic affordable to customers for the very first time. Simply put, the release of the WA-87 changed the industry’s perception of what could be achieved at an affordable price.  Based on classic 60s circuitry, the WA-87’s rich sound became a favorite of countless producers, engineers, and home recordists everywhere.  It was our first microphone and a verifiable hit, and in recent years we’ve followed it with many other successful and ground-breaking designs. Since the release of the WA-87 in 2016 we’ve learned a bunch more about microphone manufacturing, and we’ve proven that we can shatter the industry’s quality expectations at affordable prices. That experience drove us to see if we could improve the WA-87 in tangible ways without having to raise the price, and the result is the new WA-87 R2 (Revision 2). We’ve used everything we’ve learned about recreating vintage microphones in the last five years to bring it even closer to the sound, vibe and performance of the original 60s classic we all know and love. We’re ecstatic to bring you the result – in short, the new WA-87 R2 is bigger, bolder and just plain better! A Faithful Reproduction With Top-Shelf Components The WA-87 is based on a classic 60s circuit that is widely considered to be one of the greatest studio microphones ever designed. We spent countless hours trying to get even closer to the sound of the vintage version than we had with the WA-87, so the new WA-87 R2 uses top-quality components like a NOS Fairchild transistor and high-bandwidth polystyrene and film capacitors from Wima. The WA-87 R2 uses a custom-wound Cinemag USA output transformer like the original WA-87 did, with the new version providing a slightly increased output level and improved frequency response. We also employed the same capsule the WA-87 uses, which was designed to the exact specifications of the ones found in the vintage mics. The result is an incredibly accurate sonic replica of arguably the widest-used studio microphone in popular recording history! The Most Versatile Mic In Your Locker Just like the vintage microphone, the WA-87 R2 excels at recording virtually anything. Three polar patterns (cardioid, omni, and figure 8) make sure you’re covered for a wide variety of applications, and an 80Hz high pass filter reduces low-frequency rumble if needed. The switchable -10dB pad comes in handy when you want to record extremely loud sources and not overload the internal electronics. The WA-87 R2 works brilliantly on vocals, drum overheads, guitars, piano, auxiliary percussion, brass, strings, and more. Not only that, it’s the same price as the original WA-87, so you can afford to have several in your mic locker! Stunning In Sound And Appearance The WA-87 R2 is now encased in a heavier, stronger and larger nickel-plated brass body, and the new rounded head basket shape adds additional space around the capsule for a more pleasing sonic signature. With authentic vintage warmth and a smooth detailed top end, we truly believe this mic performs on par with microphones costing five times as much or more. No matter what else you’ve got in your mic locker, the WA-87 R2 is sure to become one of your favorite go-to microphones! Warm Audio Jude-MP2

Warm Audio Jude-MP2

Some of music’s most recognizable records of the '60s and '70s ran through the A-Range preamps in one custom Sound Techniques console at Trident Studios in London. To capture that same sound in a rack-friendly unit, Warm Audio built the Jude-MP2 stereo microphone preamp, designed in collaboration with Sound Techniques and Geoff Frost, the engineer who drew the original A-Range preamp schematic. The Jude-MP2 preserves the complete original signal path, featuring stereo dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifiers that provide your sources with the depth and forward push that made the Trident Studios console legendary. Additionally, the 9-position Z-Match control sets how your microphone loads the input, optimizing mic and preamp interplay for both vintage and modern microphones. Put your room mics, drum overheads, or piano pair through the Jude-MP2, and you are effectively tracking through the same console that shaped one of rock ’n’ roll's most beloved eras. The original A-Range circuitPlenty of gear has promised the Trident sound: the punch, depth, and musicality heard on some of London's most famous recordings. The Jude-MP2 is built from the actual console schematics used to produce them. In the Jude-MP2, every stage of the A-Range preamp signal path is carried over, with its dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifiers and proprietary 8-lead impedance-matching control reproduced channel-for-channel. The weight and midrange presence you hear on those classic Trident records came directly from this preamp circuit, and with the Jude-MP2 in your rack, your signals will track through that same circuit.Handwired, console-grade componentsSound Techniques specified this build down to the capacitor, and Warm Audio followed suit: Wima and Nichicon audio-grade capacitors, carbon resistors, and CineMag transformers wound to custom specs all populate a handwired board layout of Sound Techniques' own design. Each unit is assembled to console-grade standards, then hand-tested and inspected by Warm Audio's technicians before shipping. Preserving the integrity of the original design was crucial to Warm Audio, and it's this attention to detail and craftsmanship that gives the Jude-MP2 its authentic character.Fine-tune every mic with Z-MatchProcured from the original console design, the 9-position Z-Match control is a re-creation of Geoff Frost's 8-lead impedance-matching circuit. The Z-Match tone control changes how the preamp and the microphone interact at the input, allowing you to optimize and dial in gain, response, and character across various microphones. Z-Match behaves wonderfully across vintage ribbons and modern condensers alike, making it that much easier for you to capture the sound you're after right at the source.Warm Audio Jude-MP2 Features:Stereo microphone preamp built from the original Sound Techniques “A-Range” console preamp circuit used at Trident StudiosOfficial Sound Techniques and Warm Audio collaboration, designed by original A-Range engineer Geoff Frost from his own console schematicsComplete original signal path, including dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifiers, reproduced channel-for-channel for the weight and midrange presence of the original console9-position Z-Match control re-creates the original 8-lead impedance-matching circuit, optimizing mic-to-preamp interaction to fine-tune gain, response, and character across vintage and modern microphonesCustom-spec CineMag USA transformers, Wima and Nichicon audio-grade capacitors, and carbon resistors on a handwired PCB layout designed by Sound TechniquesEvery unit is individually hand-tested and inspected by trained technicians before it shipsAlso available in a mono version5-year warranty provided by Warm Audio

Neumann M-50 V

Neumann M-50 V

At long last, Neumann has resumed production of the classic M 50. Neumann first introduced the M 50 in 1951. Although outwardly identical to its M 49 stablemate — which housed a large diaphragm and was the first studio microphone with a continuously variable polar pattern — the M 50 was built around a small-diaphragm capsule flush-mounted in a small sphere and yielded a fixed omnidirectional pickup pattern. Today, vintage M 50s are legendary and highly sought-after recording tools. If you were to find one in working condition for sale today (a tall order), it would command an astronomical price. Fortunately, for a fraction of that, you can now own a genuine Neumann M 50 V reissue, handcrafted in Germany to original specifications using archived documentation.State-of-the-art vintage-spec reissueThe tolerances and build quality that go into today’s high-end microphones have come a long way since the 1950s. Cutting-edge technology and advanced materials science enable high-precision design and manufacturing unimaginable even a few decades ago. Accordingly, this M 50 V reissue incorporates reliable, state-of-the-art vintage-spec components and technical improvements throughout, such as its newly designed K 33 Ti capsule, which features a lightweight, durable titanium diaphragm, and its RF-proof connector design that resists electromagnetic interference from today’s Wi-Fi and mobile phone signals.True to the original — with improvementsThe original, trailblazing M 50 concept remains the same — a small diaphragm sitting flush-mounted in a 40mm acrylic sphere — resulting in an even response in the diffuse field and gradually boosted directivity at higher frequencies, which particularly lends itself to the capture of live orchestra performances and attendant concert hall ambience. The newly developed K 33 Ti capsule used in the M 50 V leverages the acoustical design of the original K 53 capsule, but benefits from modern build quality, as evidenced by the titanium used to handcraft its delicate diaphragm, which replaces the nickel or aluminum used in the original. The electronics remain true to the original design as well.
