DescriptionThe ZEN Air CAN is a powerful, hi-res home analogue amplifier that provides greater headphone enjoyment with any analogue source such as your PC, Mac, smartphone, tablet, streamer or TV.Amp it upThe ZEN Air CAN is an amplifier pure and simple. It simply takes an input signal from a source such as those mentioned above and creates a larger copy of the original signal before it’s sent to your headphones. Think about listening to sound with your hands over your ears and then removing them! Adding the ZEN Air CAN into your system is a little like that – back comes clarity of sound as well as volume.Lots to gain…The ZEN Air CAN comes with three gain settings so that it works well with every pair of headphones or in-ear monitors (also known as IEMs). What is gain? Gain in audio terms refers to an amplifier’s ability to increase the amplitude (size) of the signal from the source (input) to the headphones or speakers (output). More gain equals a stronger signal. You will need to adjust the gain depending on the sensitivity of the headphones or iEMs you are using. For example, highly sensitive headphones need lower gain. Play around with the settings. Trust your ears.eSpecially for youThe ZEN Air CAN has two different headphone sockets – 6.3mm single-ended and 4.4mm S-Balanced. There are basically two types of headphone – single-ended and balanced. In a nutshell, single-ended is the most common but the balanced option is often considered the better as it offers more power and control of the headphones. At iFi, we know not everyone has balanced headphones, so we’ve created our S-Balanced technology. This gives you all the benefits of a balanced connection – lower noise, less crosstalk – but without the need for balanced headphones.Sonic tailoringThe ZEN Air CAN boasts a couple of sonic tweaks, unique to iFi. XBass is analogue bass boost. In other words, it extends the bass response to suit different headphones. XSpace is an analogue headphone spatialiser. This opens up your music to give you the spaciousness of a live-concert atmosphere.TDK C0G (Class 1 ceramic) capacitors offer high stability and low losses for resonant circuit applications.Getting ever closer to the theoretical ideal of pure, frequency-constant capacitance, these capacitors reduce capacitor-induced distortion to vanishingly low levels. They are pricey but are a perfect addition to our products.Texas Instruments low-noise ICs offer great unity-gain bandwidth, very low noise and distortion, high output drive capability, Common-mode and Power Supply Rejection Ratios of over 100 dB, wide maximum-output-swing bandwidths and high slew rates.

ANALOGUE DESIGN FOR A DIGITAL AGEWith the knowledge in hand to design minimally invasive electronics without needing to be minimalist, we decided that our preamp should be complete. Very complete. The basic Makua is an extremely transparent gain stage and a programmable routing matrix. The chassis has ample room to fit optional extras, most notably a DAC and a phono stage. The 6 preset buttons are programmable via USB or Bluetooth to access any combination of channel, processing and routing. In a system with mainly digital sources, the preset buttons would be programmed to select between them.   Vinl lovers on the other hand might want to use several buttons to select the same turntable but with different EQ settings to suit their large collection of historic LP's. All five inputs are switchable between XLR and floating RCA connections, and all can be assigned as either phono or line. All stages in the Makua use discrete amplifier modules in a little known topology called “single-ended driven differential”. Compared to doubly executed signal paths, this structure prevents noise from propagating all the way through.   The Makua is amazingly immune to influences like mains quality and choice of interlinks. The relay-based volume control directly controls the gain of the output stage. Dynamic range and linearity of this arrangement is much greater than those of stepped attenuators. Operation is smooth and entirely glitch free. I/O5 balanced and 5 unbalanced inputs, all routable through optional processor boards like the phono stage.2 parallel outputs for bi-amping.4 programmable trigger outputs.ProcessingBalance and input gain offset.Phase invert and mono sum.Full software control of routing and processingPerformanceMaximum input/output level: 20 dBu (7.75 Vrms)Unweighted noise voltage at unity gain: 1.9 uVInput impedance: 100 kohmOutput impedance: 44 ohmDistortion at maximum signal level (THD, IMD): not measurable, estimated around -150dB.Bandwidth >200 kHzGain range: -70 dB to +15 dB.Gain resolution:

The NEO iDSD ‘remembers’ up to 7 devices and has impressive range on Bluetooth5.0. Ride the ‘PureWave’ Not only is the NEO iDSD a purist design – no DSP, no digital filter selection and no change in analogue playback – it is also all designed around a balanced circuit design named ‘PureWave‘. Read more below. It uses audiophile-grade components and delivers sonic ‘purity’ thanks to the extraordinarily low levels of noise and distortion. Power and poise The headphone amp stage maintains an engaging balance between sonic power and poise – no matter what it is tasked to drive. From high-sensitivity in-ear monitors to current-hungry planar headphones, it drives them with aplomb. It has a continuous power output of over 1000mW into 32ohms available through the balanced headphone socket. Plenty of oomph for headphone user. Just more music The NEO iDSD contains top-notch audio components to back-up the outstanding balanced circuit design. Scroll down for more. Even the OLED SilentLine display is engineered to ensure there is no electrical noise to interfere with the audio signal as it switches itself off when not in use. Quality components mean more clarity and texture, a more engaging performance. You just hear more of the music. We use Qualcomm’s new QCC5100 Bluetooth processing IC in combination with proprietary circuits to create an audibly superior ‘Bluetooth engine’. All the current high-definition Bluetooth audio formats are supported – Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive and aptX HD, Sony’s LDAC and HWA’s LHDC, regular aptX and aptX Low Latency, AAC (Apple iOS devices) and SBC (the ‘plain vanilla’ Bluetooth codec). Of the 24-bit-capable codecs, aptX Adaptive and aptX HD support up to 48kHz, while LDAC and LHDC reach 96kHz. iFi’s ‘Bluetooth engine’ can also be updated over-the-air, so future codecs may be added. Balanced, differential analogue circuit design reduces noise and cross-talk within the signal path by fully separating the left and right channels. PureWave is a new, balanced, symmetrical dual-mono topology with short, direct signal paths. The name refers to the sonic purity it achieves thanks to exceptional linearity and infinitesimally low levels of noise and distortion. High-quality components are used throughout, including custom ultra-low-distortion op-amps, multilayer ceramic TDK C0G capacitors, MELF thin-film resistors and inductors from Murata and Taiyo Yuden. Their class-leading qualities such as low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance), high linearity and low noise pay great dividends in terms of sound quality. The headphone amp stage has a continuous power output of more than 1000mW into 32ohms available through the balanced headphone socket. To retain maximum resolution, the volume is adjusted in the analogue domain via a resistor ladder, under precise microprocessor control. MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) is supported through the USB and S/PDIF inputs, with full decoding of MQA files up to 384kHz thanks to the processing power of the new 16-core XMOS chip. This means that the full ‘three unfold’ decoding process is performed internally, as opposed to only the final unfold in the manner of an MQA ‘renderer’. Globally, MQA has become an important consideration for any comprehensively equipped DAC. It is available through for Tidal Masters, Audirvana and Roon. The Burr-Brown True Native® chipset means file formats remain unchanged or ‘bit-perfect’. This means you are listening to music as the artist intended in the format in which it was recorded. At iFi we use Burr Brown extensively in our products having selected it for its natural-sounding ‘musicality’ and True Native architecture. Our experience with this IC means we know how to make the most of it. The XMOS 16-Core chip processes the audio data received via the USB and S/PDIF digital inputs. This new low-latency XMOS microcontroller has greatly enhanced processing power. Compared to the current generation of eight-core chips, this new 16-core IC delivers double the clock speed (2000MIPS) and four times the memory (512KB), as well as the latest SuperSpeed USB standard. iFi’s in-house digital development team has programmed the XMOS firmware to optimise sound quality and ensure a perfect partnership with the Burr-Brown DAC. Hi-res audio support is state-of-the-art with True Native® playback. It handles PCM data to 32-bit/768kHz, DSD up to DSD512 and single and double speed DXD. Thanks to the Burr-Brown DAC chip’s four-channel True Native design, PCM and DSD take separate pathways – this enables DSD, as well as PCM, to remain ‘bit-perfect’ in its native form right through to analogue conversion. This is not the case with all DAC devices from other brands – even if DSD compatibility is stated, many such DACs convert DSD signals to PCM. Extensive jitter-eradication technologies are applied to the digital stage, including our GMT (Global Master Timing) femto-precision clock and intelligent memory buffer. This represents a total ‘out-of-the-box’ systematic digital solution that solves jitter once and for all. As with many other iFi audio products, we’ve incorporated a custom OV Series operational-amplifier. This top-notch component contributes to the extremely low noise, low distortion (0.0001%) and wide bandwidth. Texas Instruments low-noise ICs offer great unity-gain bandwidth, very low noise and distortion, high output drive capability, Common-mode and Power Supply Rejection Ratios of over 100 dB, wide maximum-output-swing bandwidths and high slew rates. TDK C0G (Class 1 ceramic) capacitors offer high stability and low losses for resonant circuit applications. They are pricey but are a perfect addition to our products. muRata control-type, low-ESR high-Q multi-layer capacitors. The ‘ESR control’ aspect of the Murata is something special. Their noise suppression abilities are impressive. Switching between settings has been engineered to ensure sonic transparency with advanced trench technology MOSFET is used as a muting switch. This FET-based switching is handled by a micro-controller, which only ‘wakes up’ when the user changes a setting, thus eradicating any sonically deleterious interference. Technical Specifications Inputs: Digital: USB3.0 B (USB2.0 compatible), S-PDIF (coaxial/optical), Bluetooth 5.0™ ( AAC, SBC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX LL, LDAC, LHDC/HWA Codec)  Formats: DSD512/256/128/64 Octa/Quad/Double/Single-Speed DSD, DXD (768/705.6/384/352.8kHz), Double/Single-Speed DXD, PCM (768/705.6/384/352.8/192/176.4/96/88.2/48/44.1kHz), MQA, Bluetooth 96kHz Outputs: Balanced XLR: 6.3V / 7.7V max. Phonitor xe has two of them: One for PCM audio and one for DSD audio, since different roll-off frequencies are required. In contrast to all other DACs in the world, the low pass filters here are built using VOLTAiR technology, which provides a plus in dynamics and headroom and sound.Good ol' timesTwo mechanical VU meters visualize the input levels for the left and right audio channel. With the VU switch you can optimize the display for different signal levels.Finding the middleis not always easy. By our very nature, hearing can be leaning more to the left or more to the right. This is especially obvious when listening with headphones. That’s why Phonitor xe has the uniquely finely resolved laterality control. With it, the center can be found perfectly. With the MODE switch you can choose between stereo or mono playback. This switch also activates the laterality control. The Revolution: Phonitor MatrixThe Phonitor Matrix is the revolution in the headphone amplifier. Thanks to the Phonitor Matrix, music can be experienced on headphones as if it was played on speakers. The tiring super stereo effect is a thing of the past.Enjoy your music without listening fatigue and exactly the way it should be heard.Music is normally produced and mixed for playback on stereo speakers.Listening on headphones is different from listening on loudspeakers. The biggest difference is the lack of crossing signals of the sound signal from the left speaker to the right ear and from the right speaker to the left ear. These crossing signals are missing in conventional headphone listening, because there are no signals crossing from one side of the headphones to the other. This results in an unnaturally wide stereo image and the various sound sources of the audio signal are not localized as the sound engineer intended them to. This effect is often referred to as “super stereo effect”. During conventional listening on headphones, our brain can balance the false representation of the playback to a certain extent – but this is very exhausting. The SPL Phonitor Matrix can correct this false stereo image with an analog circuitry. The Phonitor Matrix therefore not only ensures a correct representation of the stereo image, but also a relaxed listening experience. The two main parameters of the Phonitor Matrix are Crossfeed and Angle:Crossfeed determines the crossing signals of the channels, the so-called interaural level difference.Angle determines the opening angle of the stereo image, the so-called interaural time difference.Center of AttentionTo make the listening experience even more perfect, the level of the center of the stereo image needs to be attenuated when the Phonitor Matrix is active. This ensures that not only the position of all sound sources is correct but also their volume. In the Professional Fidelity Phonitor devices this value is set to a fixed attenuation of -1 dB, which is the best choice for getting an authentic representation of the sound stage.Sounds good! With all devices of the Professional Fidelity series we develop not only according to plan, but also by ear. All important components are installed on the circuit boards using Through-hole technology. This way we can ensure that we can use the best sounding components. The VOLTAiR TechnologyThe 120V technology is our reference technology. The 120V technology is unique in the world. It operates at a DC voltage of 120 volts. This is four times that of IC-based semiconductor op-amps. In our Professional Fidelity series, we refer to this unsurpassed technology as VOLTAiR technology. The highest possible audio quality requires the highest possible audio operating voltage. The 120V technology works with +/-60 V. To be able to handle such a high voltage, we have developed special proprietary operational amplifiers that can operate with a DC voltage of +/-60 V: the SPL 120V SUPRA operational amplifiers. This high voltage would destroy conventional components and operational amplifiers.By the way, the “120V” in the name of the technology has nothing to do with the local mains voltage from the mains power socket. This is about the operating voltage inside the device with which the audio signals are processed. The mains voltage from the mains power socket is transformed to the required secondary voltage in the device’s internal linear power supply with toroidal transformer. Rectifiers convert this AC voltage into DC voltage required in the audio device.

The headphone monitoring amp and preamplifier with Phonitor Matrix. Phonitor 2 is the ultimate headphone amplifier for sound and mastering engineers who also mix and master on headphones. Speakers can also be connected, making Phonitor 2 a full-fledged monitor controller. Milled from the solid aluminum is the 45mm large volume knob. Its mass in combination with the motorized Alps RK27 “Big Blue” potentiometer further enhances the “spoon in honey” turning feeling. Remote control The volume can be adjusted with any infrared remote control, which Phonitor 2 simply learns. Just press the IR programming button on the back and then the buttons for louder and softer. Learning made easy This video explains how you can use any infrared remote control to remotely control the volume. Monitor Controller Features Sources: 2x XLR, 1x RCA Solo L/R Phase reversal for L and R Output switchable to headphones or speakers  Mute Phonitor Matrix with crossfeed, speaker angle and center level (the latter can be switched off) To The Power Amp or to the active loudspeakers it goes symmetrically via XLR sockets. Slave Thru The volume control can be switched off by means of a dip-switch on the bottom of the unit.  The Sources Two balanced and one unbalanced stereo sources can be connected to Phonitor 2. If a CD player or other HiFi equipment is connected to the RCA jacks, the consumer level can be raised from -10 dBV to 0 dBu using a dip switch on the bottom of the unit. In this way the sources are comparable in level. Mechanical VU Meter visualize the input levels, which can be switched in sensitivity with the VU Cal switch. Laterality By its very nature, hearing can be directed more to the left or more to the right. This is particularly evident when listening with headphones. That’s why Phonitor 2 has the finely resolved Laterality control. With it the center can be set perfectly. The Revolution in the headphone amplifier is the Phonitor Matrix, thanks to which you can create and evaluate your production through headphones in the same way as through speakers.  To achieve this, the super stereo effect must be corrected. It makes the placement of voices and instruments in the stereo image appear to be more widely distributed and effects like reverb and delays are overdone.
