INTRODUCING AN UPDATED AND UPGRADED '87 STYLE FET CONDENSER MICROPHONE WA-87 R2: Updated And Upgraded In 2016, we at Warm Audio introduced one of the most talked-about 87-style FET condenser microphones in the industry with the release of the WA-87, and at just $599 USD it made the looks and authentic vintage sonics of this style of mic affordable to customers for the very first time. Simply put, the release of the WA-87 changed the industry’s perception of what could be achieved at an affordable price.  Based on classic 60s circuitry, the WA-87’s rich sound became a favorite of countless producers, engineers, and home recordists everywhere.  It was our first microphone and a verifiable hit, and in recent years we’ve followed it with many other successful and ground-breaking designs. Since the release of the WA-87 in 2016 we’ve learned a bunch more about microphone manufacturing, and we’ve proven that we can shatter the industry’s quality expectations at affordable prices. That experience drove us to see if we could improve the WA-87 in tangible ways without having to raise the price, and the result is the new WA-87 R2 (Revision 2). We’ve used everything we’ve learned about recreating vintage microphones in the last five years to bring it even closer to the sound, vibe and performance of the original 60s classic we all know and love. We’re ecstatic to bring you the result – in short, the new WA-87 R2 is bigger, bolder and just plain better! A Faithful Reproduction With Top-Shelf Components The WA-87 is based on a classic 60s circuit that is widely considered to be one of the greatest studio microphones ever designed. We spent countless hours trying to get even closer to the sound of the vintage version than we had with the WA-87, so the new WA-87 R2 uses top-quality components like a NOS Fairchild transistor and high-bandwidth polystyrene and film capacitors from Wima. The WA-87 R2 uses a custom-wound Cinemag USA output transformer like the original WA-87 did, with the new version providing a slightly increased output level and improved frequency response. We also employed the same capsule the WA-87 uses, which was designed to the exact specifications of the ones found in the vintage mics. The result is an incredibly accurate sonic replica of arguably the widest-used studio microphone in popular recording history! The Most Versatile Mic In Your Locker Just like the vintage microphone, the WA-87 R2 excels at recording virtually anything. Three polar patterns (cardioid, omni, and figure 8) make sure you’re covered for a wide variety of applications, and an 80Hz high pass filter reduces low-frequency rumble if needed. The switchable -10dB pad comes in handy when you want to record extremely loud sources and not overload the internal electronics. The WA-87 R2 works brilliantly on vocals, drum overheads, guitars, piano, auxiliary percussion, brass, strings, and more. Not only that, it’s the same price as the original WA-87, so you can afford to have several in your mic locker! Stunning In Sound And Appearance The WA-87 R2 is now encased in a heavier, stronger and larger nickel-plated brass body, and the new rounded head basket shape adds additional space around the capsule for a more pleasing sonic signature. With authentic vintage warmth and a smooth detailed top end, we truly believe this mic performs on par with microphones costing five times as much or more. No matter what else you’ve got in your mic locker, the WA-87 R2 is sure to become one of your favorite go-to microphones! he WA-47 is an all vacuum tube, large diaphragm, transformer balanced, multi-pattern (9), large condenser microphone, based on the classic ‘47 that has been used on countless hit records for the last 50+ years.  The WA-47 is designed for pro studio, home studio, live, and broadcast applications and sounds great on vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, acoustic/electric bass, drums, piano, strings, brass/woodwind instruments, and an array of other sources. The classic ‘47 became extremely popular in the 1960’s and is now considered one of the greatest microphones every made.  The classic ‘47 is still widely used today in professional recording studios but have become extremely rare and expensive to acquire.True '47 style capsuleThe WA-47 utilizes a custom reproduction of the vintage k47 style capsule that was used in the classic ‘47 microphone - designed with the same hole pattern and frequency response.  Every Warm Audio capsule is made in the same small assembly house in a clean-room environment,  and packaged in its own protective jewel case until the moment it is loaded into the microphone.  Each capsule is visually inspected and electrically tested for imperfections. The CapsuleThe WA-47 utilizes a custom reproduction of the vintage k47 style capsule that was used in the classic ‘47 microphone - designed with the same hole pattern and frequency response.  Our version of this capsule (model# WA-47-B-80v) is carefully manufactured by an Australian capsule manufacturer who's precision and repeatability allows us to nail the vintage sonics of the most important sonic piece of this classic style of microphone. The TubeA Slovak Republic JJ 5751 vacuum tube is a lower gain, low noise tube that forces much of the sonics of the capsule and transformer to be heard more significantly than some higher gain tubes might allow.  We auditioned 4 different tube brands and fell in love with the JJ 5751.  The frequency response of the JJ 5751 and the way it contributes to the circuit is tonally smooth and vintage in nature. The TransformerThe WA-47 utilizes an American made TAB-Funkenwerk (AMI) USA transformer with large core imported German laminations.  This transformer helps provide the creamy smooth top end, and the LARGER THAN LIFE bottom end one would expect from a '47 style condenser microphone. The CableOne component of a tube microphone often overlooked is the 7 pin cable that connects the microphone to its power supply.  When auditioning the WA-47 and other tube microphones we learned quite a bit about 7 pin cables and how the shielding and wire gauge size can drastically change the sonics of a tube microphone.  We have partnered with Gotham Audio in Switzerland to use their very carefully built top-end 7 pin GAC-7 cable. Using this cable increases top end presence and the overall size of the recorded image in the stereo field, by reducing phase shift and the parasitic effect often found in poorly built cables. Gotham Audio is very expensive and boutique in nature and should not be considered a small addition to the WA-47 package. The CapacitorsThe WA-47 uses a polystyrene coupling capacitor for uncompressed top-end response from the capsule, wima film capacitors throughout, and an imported Solen French capacitor on its output driving the TAB-Funkenwerk (AMI) USA output transformer.Specifications:Custom true '47 capsule reproduction (k47 style) - Model# WA-47-B-80vCapsule makeup: Gold sputtered, dual large diaphragm, single backplate, 6 microns NOS mylar (PET film)TAB-Funkenwerk (AMI) USA output transformerJJ Slovak 5751 vacuum tubeGotham 5 meter GAC-7, 7-pin tube microphone cableWima, Solen French, and Polystyrene capacitorsPolar Patterns: 9 patterns - Cardioid, Omni, figure-of-eight + 6 mixed patternsSelf-noise: 11dBADynamic range: 130dBAMaximum SPL: 140dB  (

Chandler Limited's multi-year design project with Abbey Road Studios has yielded the first EMI-branded mic in over a half century. The REDD Microphone presents a classic aesthetic — but this is no vintage mic clone. It marks a paradigm shift of major proportions, incorporating historic circuits and their legendary sonics in a new and unique way. The all-analog design combines microphone and preamp in an elegant, handcrafted large-diaphragm condenser microphone you can use with or without an external mic pre. Fitted with a custom handmade platinum-membrane capsule and the vintage vacuum tube REDD.47 mic amplifier circuit, the REDD Microphone will output line-level signal and features a Drive setting that introduces tasty, vintage-flavored harmonic color.Abbey Road's holy-grail preamp onboardThe REDD.47 preamp in the REDD Microphone re-creates the original tube line amps developed by EMI's Record Engineering Development Department for deployment in Abbey Road Studios' rare, custom EMI REDD.51 recording consoles. This is the unmistakably punchy, aggressive sound that characterized recordings made in Studio Two between 1964 and 1968 — including legendary tracks by the Beatles. As implemented in the REDD Microphone, modern features have been added to meet contemporary recording studio standards, such as gain control that gives you a range of tonal options, from pristine clean to rich, classic saturation. Features and included accessoriesChandler Limited spec'd the REDD Microphone with a rotary switch on the rear of the microphone body that lets you dial in gain between +4 and +33dB. Continuous output control is accessible from the included external power supply. Around the other side of the mic is a Type switch with Norm and Drive settings — the latter increasing gain to +36dB and introducing distinctive tonal coloration. Also onboard are a 10dB pad and polarity reverse switches. The mic comes with a spider-type shockmount, a 25-foot Mogami mic cable, and a custom-molded flight case.Chandler Limited REDD Microphone Features:The first EMI-branded mic in over a half centuryCombines microphone and preamp in 1 elegant deviceOnboard vacuum tube REDD.47 mic amplifier circuitUse it with or without an external mic preampHandmade platinum-membrane capsuleRotary switch lets you dial in gain between +4 and +33dBDrive setting increased gain to +36dB, introducing tasty tonal coloration10dB pad and polarity reverse switchesIncludes outboard power supply, high-quality spider-type shockmountShips with 25-foot Mogami mic cable and custom-molded flight caseCrafted in Chandler Limited's Shell Rock, Iowa, factoryChandler Limited and their associated logos are registered trademarks of Chandler Limited, Inc. The Chandler Limited TG Microphone is a solid-state large-diaphragm condenser microphone that carries forward the rich legacy of EMI Abbey Road Studios innovation. In addition to its cardioid and omni polar patterns, the TG Microphone employs a unique feature set consisting of an onboard Dual Tone System, EMI Tape Equalizer, 50Hz/90Hz highpass filter, 10dB pad, and outboard power supply to deliver unrivaled versatility and sonic character. Much like a classic tube mic, the TG Microphone's use of a dedicated PSU — rather than 48-volt phantom power — is integral to its huge, lifelike sound.A sound that rivals the classicsIf you're coveting the sound of classic vintage microphones like the U47, U87, FET47, and C414 for your recordings, then you'll love the TG Microphone. In close cooperation with Abbey Road Studios, Chandler Limited developed the TG Microphone's unique onboard EMI Tape Equalizer and Dual Tone System that allow you to tailor the mic's tonality for results that favorably compare to the above-mentioned classics. The Tape EqualizerThe Tape Equalizer circuitry is adapted from the NAB/IEC Tape EQ found on vintage EMI TG mastering consoles, and it works wonders in the TG Microphone. Originally used to compensate for tapes played back on machines aligned to the opposing standard, the TG Microphone's repurposed Tape Equalizer lets you shape the sound at the source, eliminating the need for further processing (and the attendant signal degradation) downstream. The sound-shaping possibilities are further extended when the Tape Equalizer is combined with the selectable 50Hz/90Hz highpass filter. The Dual Tone SystemThe Dual Tone System modifies the TG Microphone's input stage and extends the mic's versatility to accommodate a broad array of sources. System A is classic TG mid-forward, while the alternative B voicing accommodates high SPLs and is the preferred setting wherever you would normally reach for a FET47. Combined with the Tape Equalizer, the Dual Tone System yields 10 unique voicings. The TG storyIf you're wondering about the origin of the "TG" product designation, then allow Sweetwater to illuminate. The story begins in 1958. EMI London, as Abbey Road Studios was then known, had a staff of innovative recording and technical engineers and racks of the best gear available at the time; much of it either heavily modified — or designed from scratch — by EMI technicians. The Beatles, of course, were the most famous beneficiaries of EMI's technical prowess. Their early records were recorded on EMI REDD .37 valve consoles built by EMI Central Research Laboratories in the late 1950s, while the updated REDD .51 handled their mid-'60s output — including Sgt. Pepper. The introduction of 8-track recording and the increasing sonic experimentation of a new generation of artists demanded new technology; thus, a new EMI-designed desk made its debut in 1968. With 24 mic inputs, eight buses, four echo sends, two cue sends, and — for the first time ever — a compressor/limiter (in addition to EQ) on every channel, the TG12345 console was substantially larger and more capable than the REDD desks, and driven by transistors rather than tubes, its sound was dramatically richer and more highly detailed. The "TG" prefix was a nod to EMI's corporate predecessor, "The Gramophone" company. The TG12345 was put to the test in Studio Two the following year on the Beatles' Abbey Road album. The groundbreaking sound quality of the solid-state EMI TG12345 recording and mastering consoles left its mark on legendary albums by the rock royalty of the era. Four generations of the TG12345 served Abbey Road clients (the studio had changed its name in honor of the Beatles album) through the 1970s, recording countless hit records and film scores before being retired from service in 1983.Chandler Limited TG Microphone Features:Solid-state large-diaphragm condenser micCardioid and omnidirectional polar patternsOnboard Dual Tone System, EMI TG Tape Equalizer, 50Hz/90Hz highpass filter, 10dB padIncludes a shockmount, a dedicated PSU, a 25' Mogami 4-pin cable, and a wooden storage caseQuality crafted by Chandler Limited in Shell Rock, IA

The SA-87i is an exact reproduction of the best sounding vintage Neumann U87 microphone we could find and considered by most engineers as the finest sounding U87 ever made.A replica of one of the finest sounding condenser microphones in historyWe have recreated the distinctive character of our all time favorite vintage Neumann U 87 microphone to the very last detail, and for the first time, at a price that makes it affordable to anyone. The SA-87i is made with premium componentsThe SA-87i features premium Vishay capacitors on the audio path as well as polystyrene capacitors, which are more stable and much more linear in the top end. This makes them the perfect choice for feedback circuitry. Every unit comes with a custom Sowter output transformer made in UK and a custom BG K-87 capsule from Rome. The main shortcoming with current offerings is polarization voltage. While current models feature 60V, the vintage units were rated at 48V. The lower voltage of polarization makes the capsule sound more musical and mellow as well as increasing the microphone’s headroom, hence making it less susceptible to distortion. We have remained 100% faithful to the original vintage circuit and schematic and have made no compromise in parts which ensures you are getting the best sounding microphone possible.100% satisfaction guarantee – if you don’t love your SA-87i, we’ll refund youIf you’ve used an original vintage U87 before, we’re extremely confident the SA-87i will put a big smile on your face every time you use it.However, if you’ve never touched the original before, as gear-lovers ourselves we understand that the only way to really know if this microphone is for you, is to put it through its paces. That’s why the SA-87 comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. This allows you to get it into your studio and see how it impacts your recordings. If you love it (and we think you will!), great…keep the unit and create amazing music with it. If not, no problems. Just send it back to us and we’ll fully refund your purchase.

Introduced in 1960, the U 67 was the quintessential studio workhorse throughout the formative years of modern music. Today, more than ever, its inimitably smooth sound continues to be in high demand. Now, for the first time in decades, Neumann’s legendary tube microphone is back in production, built to the original specifications.Introduced as the successor to the eminent Neumann U 47, a lesser microphone would have failed. But the U 67 was quickly adopted as the new studio standard, offering many advantages over its predecessor. With three selectable polar patterns and advanced tube circuitry, including low cut and pad switches, the Neumann U 67 was well-equipped for virtually any recording task. It still is: To this day, many top level engineers would choose the U 67 as their “desert island” microphone for its extraordinary versatility and unmatched sound quality.Neumann Engineering at Its BestThe U 67 was the first microphone equipped with the famous K 67 capsule, which has since become associated with “the Neumann sound” and continues to be used in its successor, the U 87 A. No less important is the U 67’s masterful tube circuit featuring a clever pre-emphasis/de-emphasis scheme to minimize tube hiss. The U 67 was also the first microphone to address modern recording techniques such as close miking. Its switchable low cut filter compensates for the proximity effect occurring at short recording distances. Using its preattenuation, the U 67 can handle high sound pressure levels of up to 124 dB without distortion (and much more if you don’t mind a bit of “tube grit”).As timeless as its sound and technical design is its outer appearance. The U 67’s cone-shaped body and the tapered headgrille have since become iconic for the Neumann brand; the same elegant design would grace its solid state successor, the U 87, for the next 50+ years.ApplicationsThe U 67 is a universal studio microphone suitable for all applications. Its smooth top-end with a subtle tube shimmer makes the U 67 an outstanding vocal microphone. Due to its essentially linear response in three polar patterns – omni, cardioid, and figure-8 – the U 67 is also a very versatile microphone for all kinds of instruments such as strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, drums, acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar and upright bass.History RepeatingSonically, the current reissue is identical to the U 67 made from 1960–1971. It uses the same capsule and electronic design. Key parts, such as the BV 12 output transformer, are meticulously reproduced according to original documentation. EF86 tubes are carefully selected for optimal characteristics and lowest noise in a dedicated measurement facility. The power supply was redesigned to meet today’s strict safety requirements and to accommodate the slightly higher filament current of newer premium grade tubes. The new power supply NU 67 V is fully compatible with older U 67 microphones.* Reissue of the legendary Neumann U 67* Superb vocal microphone for male and female singers* Versatile microphone for all kinds of instruments* Made to original specifications using archived documentation* New power supply NU 67 V automatically adapts to the local mains voltage* Handmade and hand soldered in Germany

The making of Stealth - The Aston 33 and the blind testing process The Aston 33 (so named after the original members) is now a panel of more than 120 top producers, engineers and artists who work with Aston on new product development to ensure every mic is best in class before it is released to the market. They perform blind listening tests on a range of possible versions of each new mic, plus  ‘industry standard’ models from key manufacturers and vote on performance on a variety of sources (vocals, guitars and so on). In tests the panel do not know which mics they are listening to, so the resultant votes can’t be affected by brand reputation, or an expectation of how a certain microphone should sound. Some surprising results arose from the Stealth project testing. For example the prototype Stealth voicing that consistently came top in the voting for female vocal takes came off worst for male vocals and vice versa, regardless of the pitch of the singer! Furthermore a different voicing came top for ALL guitar sources, from finger picked acoustic through to mic’d distorted guitar cabs. These discoveries, derived from more than 9000 data samples, were the catalyst for the Aston team to set about reimagining the microphone from the ground up. Stealth truly excels at capturing professional quality audio in almost every situation, and masters them all. With 4 switchable voices delivering unparalleled performance in almost any situation, a Class A built in mic preamp with autodetect 48V Phantom power (a world’s first!) and featuring a unique Sorbothane internal shock mount system and Aston’s legendary build quality, we reckon Stealth is the world’s most versatile microphone. Stealth was developed in partnership with 92 top engineers, producers and artists (the Aston 33 development panel) who participated in a series of blind listening tests designed to create the best possible sound… the resulting four voice settings, Vocal 1, Vocal 2, Guitar and Dark, offer a range of world class sounds to suit almost every application.

A Modern Classic The TLM 103 has quickly become one of the biggest successes in Neumann’s history. Its pristine, clear sound is a modern update on the classic U87. The TLM 103 is a transformerless cardioid condenser microphone with a gentle presence boost for a stunningly direct sound with breathtaking definition and ultra low noise. The New Standard Introduced in 1997 as an affordable alternative to the venerable U 87, the TLM 103 has since become a modern classic in its own right. Today, the TLM 103 defines the standard by which contemporary studio microphones are measured. Its classic tapered headgrille design gives the TLM 103 a distinct Neumann look. The TLM 103 is a cardioid microphone with a large diaphragm condenser capsule derived from the classic K67/87 capsule of the legendary Neumann U 87. However, the TLM 103 has a slightly more modern voicing with a wide presence boost for frequencies above 5 kHz. Its very direct yet refined sound is perfect for vocals, and solo instruments that pop out of the mix without effort. Of course, the TLM 103 also has the famous authoritative midrange that has become the hallmark of Neumann microphones and made them the number one choice in studios around the world. A unique feature of the TLM 103 is its impressively deep yet controlled low end, perfect for sonorous voices and powerful bass instruments. Technical Excellence  The TLM 103 has set new standards for technical performance, too. With an incredibly low self-noise of only 7 dB-A , it is among the quietest microphones available. And its high sensitivity of 23 mV/Pa, ensures ultra low noise even with budget preamps and audio interfaces or vintage tube equipment. At the same time, the TLM 103 can handle enormous sound pressure levels of up to 138 dB without the need for preattenuation. Its vast dynamic range of 131 dB makes the TLM 103 a very easy to use studio microphone as it will capture anything from a soft whisper to a thunderous bass drum without adding noise or distortion. As a member of Neumann’s TLM series, the TLM 103 works with a transformerless output stage, which minimizes transmission losses and ensures a very immediate, uncolored sound, true to the original, as well as a clear, powerful bass response, even at highest signal levels. Applications The TLM 103 was primarily designed for project studios and broadcast use, but due to its outstanding performance was soon embraced by renowned studios as a more modern sounding alternative to the U87 e.g. for speech, vocals, drums, guitar amps, and piano. The TLM 103 is also often used as a spot mic in classical recordings e.g. for cello and double bass. Large diaphragm capsule derived from the classic U 87 microphone Balanced sound with enhanced presence Cardioid pattern Transformerless circuitry with high SPL capability Extremely low self-noise: only 7 dB-A

The original ’67 became one of the most sought-after and widely-used studio microphones of its time, recording a massive collection of some of the most memorable songs of the last 50 years - we’re talking about classic tracks from artists as varied as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Temptations and Nirvana! The original mics are still sought after, but they can command upwards of $8000 for a pristine unit, putting them far out of reach for most recordists. Thankfully, Warm Audio has now changed that scenario with the release of the new WA-67! Based around an EF86 pentode tube and having the same smooth and creamy tone of the original, the WA-67 excels at recording just about anything that you put it in front of, and it may immediately become your go-to choice for vocals, guitars, drum toms and overheads, pianos, brass and strings.

The Telefunken ELA M 250/251 was made for Telefunken by AKG after Neumann discontinued its OEM production of the Telefunken U-47. The Golden Age Premier GA-251 is inspired by this truly classic mic model. The GA-251 shares the same design goal that was set for the GA-47: to offer the classic qualities and advantages that a vintage unit in perfect condition would provide and doing so at a very low price point. Having gone through a number of prototypes that was compared to great sounding vintage units in different recording settings, everyone involved agreed that the goal was reached. The coupling capacitor is made by Solen from France. It is a high balanced film capacitor made from MKP material with pure oxygen-free copper connections. It has a very delicate and balanced sound. The capsule capacitor uses NOS Siemensantique grade polystyrene capacitor to reduce loss. The tube cathode bypass capacitor uses an ELNA OFC Cerafine high end hifi capacitor from Japan with oxygen free copper connections exhibiting a very sweet and delicate character, not the least for vocals. The other capacitors are of the low loss polystyrene type. The resistor used for setting the capsule voltage is a high quality DALE 1% metal film resistor. The result is a very stable and consistent operating level leading to better consistency between different GA-251 units. The plate resistor uses a non-inductive resistor of the United States IRC audio with pure copper connections. The sound level is rich and full bodied. The GA-251 uses a 34 mm K251 style capsule. Being a dual-sided one, it provides both cardioid and omni polar patterns. In order to get a good consistency between units, for each production run of 50 pcs GA-251 units, approximately 200 capsules is evaluatedin order to find 50 capsules with specifications that lie within the tight tolerances. The sensitivity of the front and back side of the capsule do not differ more than 0,3 dB. The sensitivity between different capsules do not differ more than 0,5 dB.The tight manufacturing tolerance will lead to a very good consistency between different GA-251 units. The capsule is specially designed to complement the electronic circuit of the GA-251 to achieve a frequency response curve with a nice balance between the high, middle and low frequencies. The result is a very smooth sound with a warm bottom and airy top end just like ELA M251. The vintage style power supply PSU uses a high power R-style transformer with a low noise level and minimum stray field.A simple but effective circuit uses dual-stage filtering for the filament voltage. The High voltage is also precisely filtered and stabilized using an ON semiconductor zener diode. The polar pattern switch is placed on the power supply so that the recording engineer can change the polar pattern between Cardioid and Omni remotely. A ground lift switch will help to solve mains power related noise issues that can appear in some cases.
