The most advanced tonearm Rega has ever made
From the Naia, for any reference system
The Rega RB Titanium is, according to Rega itself, its most advanced and accurate production tonearm. It was first designed to accompany the Naia, the company's flagship turntable, and is now also available separately. Its philosophy is simple to state and extremely difficult to achieve: as few mechanical joints as possible and the stiffest materials in the critical areas.
Materials without compromise
Where the RB3000 uses steel and aluminium, the RB Titanium moves to titanium and tungsten. The vertical bearing housing and vertical spindle are made of titanium, while the counterweight shaft and weight are made of tungsten. The low-mass aluminium tube is polished by hand.
Who it is for
The RB Titanium is for those building a reference analogue system around turntables such as the Naia or the top Planar models, and cartridges such as the Aphelion 2. The cartridge is sold separately.
Titanium at the heart
The vertical bearing is where a tonearm takes the greatest forces and where any flexibility costs information. In the RB Titanium Rega makes this part from titanium.
One-piece housing, titanium spindle
The vertical bearing housing is a single piece made of titanium, as is the vertical spindle. Titanium combines very high stiffness with low weight, so the assembly stays light yet does not flex under the forces exerted by the stylus.
Because the housing is one piece, there are no joints where micro-movement could appear. The energy of playback is carried directly to the base of the arm.
It is a costly solution that is demanding to machine, and Rega reserves it for its top tonearm alone.
The result is a bearing assembly with a stability not found in the company's other arms.
Bearings with no measurable play
The bearings are selected by hand to match the inner and outer diameters of the spindle exactly. Movement is almost frictionless, horizontally and vertically, with no measurable free play.
Rega explains that even movements of a few microns in the bearings are enough to mask the tiny modulations that carry high frequencies.
By eliminating them, the RB Titanium recovers detail that most tonearms simply lose.
The listener perceives this as greater transparency and calm in the background.
Subtle details such as the decay of a note in a hall or the breath of a singer become easier to follow.
Tungsten in the counterweight
At the rear of the arm, Rega uses tungsten for both the counterweight shaft and the weight itself. The choice is not decorative.
Density that makes the difference
Tungsten is one of the densest metals used in industry. A tungsten counterweight can be much smaller than an equivalent steel one for the same weight.
This concentrates mass closer to the pivot point, which helps the arm stay stable and react more cleanly to the movements imposed on it by the groove.
A counterweight shaft made of the same material ensures a stiff, solid connection to the rest of the arm.
Energy finds no soft spots in which to be stored and released as colouration.
The result is heard as bass with greater stability and cleaner rendering of dynamic shifts, with each note starting and stopping exactly where it should.
A hand-polished tube
The arm tube is made of low-mass aluminium and is polished by hand. Effective mass stays at 11 g, as on all Rega tonearms, so the RB Titanium works perfectly with the company's cartridges.
The combination of a light tube, a stiff titanium bearing and a dense tungsten counterweight creates a tonearm with exceptional balance.
Each material is used exactly where its properties offer the greatest benefit.
It is the most complete expression of Rega's design philosophy.
As an upgrade, it offers the owner of a top Rega turntable the technology of the Naia without changing platform, and it is the natural final step for anyone who has already moved through the RB880 and RB3000.
Reference cable and connections
The tonearm is also the path through which the cartridge's delicate signal travels. For the RB Titanium Rega designed a dedicated low-capacitance phono lead with Neutrik Profi RCA plugs.
Low capacitance
The lead's low capacitance protects high-frequency response and keeps the speed of transients intact. This matters especially with moving coil cartridges, which produce a signal of just a few hundred microvolts.
Rega designs the lead itself, so that its electrical characteristics suit its own cartridges and phono stages.
The chain from stylus to phono stage therefore stays coherent and predictable.
There is no need to hunt for exotic cables to get the best from the arm.
The signal path stays short and clean, with as few connection points as possible.
Neutrik Profi RCA
Neutrik Profi RCA plugs provide a firm, secure contact, with reliability drawn from the professional audio world, where connections must survive daily use without failing. A stable connection means lower noise and a signal that does not degrade over time.
Completed with these cables, the RB Titanium is the most complete replay system Rega offers as a separate component.
The manual includes all mounting data, so installation by a specialist dealer can be carried out precisely.
And like every Rega product, it is covered by a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects.
It is built to remain the heart of a reference system for many years.
