External DSP power supply for stable speed and lower motor noise
The most meaningful upgrade for your turntable
The Neo PSU MK2 is Rega's external power supply for turntables with a 24 V motor. It offers user fine speed adjustment, a motor anti-vibration circuit and electronic speed change. Together these reduce motor noise and improve rotational stability and accuracy. Compared with the original Neo, the MK2 has a new case in line with Rega's current design language.
Compatibility
The Neo PSU MK2 is compatible with the Rega P3-24, RP3, Planar 3 (2016 to current), RP6, P5, P7, RP40 Special Edition and RP8. It can also be used with any older Rega turntable that has been upgraded with the company's 24V Motor Upgrade Kit.
What is included
The unit works exclusively with the Rega PS1 wall power supply (24 V AC, 350 mA), and fine adjustment is made with the dedicated tool supplied. To check speed, Rega offers the optional Strobe Kit. Once installed, switching between 33⅓ and 45 rpm takes a single button press, with no need to move the belt.
DSP generator with crystal reference
A synchronous AC motor turns at a speed set by the frequency of the current that feeds it. The cleaner and more stable that signal, the steadier the platter rotation, and that is exactly what the Neo PSU MK2 improves.
Planar 10 technology
The Neo PSU MK2 uses the same DSP generator as the Planar 10 power supply, driven by a high-stability crystal. The processor divides the crystal's extremely precise signal down to exactly the frequency required for the selected speed. Turntable power therefore becomes independent of fluctuations in the mains supply.
A sine wave for the motor
The output is a clean, bi-phase 24 V AC sine wave, suited to driving Rega's 24 V motor. With less distortion in the drive signal, the motor runs more smoothly and with less vibration, which would otherwise pass through the belt to the platter and ultimately to the stylus.
What you gain
The result is steadier speed, more accurate pitch and a quieter background. Long notes on piano and strings sound stable, and timing becomes more precise. That is why Rega regards it as one of the most effective upgrades for its compatible turntables, and why it now ships as standard with the Planar 6 and Planar 8.
Ready from the factory
The Neo PSU MK2 arrives calibrated from the factory, so it performs correctly from the first use. Installation is simple: connect the PS1, run the cable to the turntable and select the speed from the front panel. No further setup is needed for everyday listening.
Anti-vibration circuit and fine adjustment
Beyond frequency accuracy, the Neo PSU MK2 addresses two more issues that affect every belt-drive turntable: vibration from the motor itself and the practicality of changing speed.
Less noise from the motor
The anti-vibration circuit reduces motor movement beyond the rotation that is actually needed, and with it the noise transmitted into the plinth. On the Planar 3 RS, Planar 6 and Planar 8, Rega tunes this circuit by hand for each individual motor, so motor and power supply work as a matched pair.
Electronic speed change
On most belt-drive turntables, switching from 33⅓ to 45 rpm means lifting the platter and moving the belt to another step on the pulley. With the Neo PSU MK2 the change is electronic, at the press of a button on the front panel. The belt always stays in place and suffers less wear from frequent handling, a benefit owners often notice.
Adjustment in 0.01 rpm steps
From the rear panel, using the supplied Neo trim tool, the user can correct the speed in steps of 0.01 rpm. Combined with Rega's optional Strobe Kit, you can confirm that the platter is turning at exactly the right speed, and return to that setting at any time.
Low consumption, safe operation
The Neo PSU MK2 consumes just 7.2 W, and its motor output is protected by a resettable fuse. It is powered by the Rega PS1, which in its European version accepts 230 V and delivers 24 V AC at 350 mA. Regional PS1 versions exist for other markets.
An upgrade for older Regas too
The Neo PSU MK2 is not only for current Planar models. Thanks to Rega's 24V Motor Upgrade Kit, it can also breathe new life into much older turntables from the company.
The 24V Motor Upgrade Kit
The kit includes a Rega-designed low-vibration, low-noise synchronous AC motor, together with a PCB that is hand-tuned for each unit to minimise vibration. It also includes a rigid mount that improves start-up compared with older Planar models with a suspended motor. Rega guarantees that the kit improves drive, speed stability and sound quality.
An upgrade path
For an older Rega, the logical order is the 24V Motor Upgrade Kit first and then the Neo PSU MK2. For compatible models with a 24 V motor, such as the Planar 3 from 2016 onwards, the Neo PSU MK2 connects directly. The upgrade can also be combined with a Reference EBLT belt.
Power and dimensions
The Neo PSU MK2 works only with the Rega PS1 wall power supply (24 V AC, 350 mA) and draws 7.2 W. At 18 x 5 x 15.5 cm and 0.6 kg, it sits easily beside the turntable.
Standard on new Planars
Rega trusts the Neo PSU MK2 enough that Planar 6 and Planar 8 models that include a Neo power supply now ship with the MK2 as standard, as does the Planar 3 RS Edition. Buying one gives a compatible turntable the same power supply technology found on those models.
