The drive belt fitted as standard to Planar 1, 2 and 3
Rega’s standard-fit belt
The Advanced EBLT is the drive belt Rega fits at the factory to the Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus, Planar 2 and Planar 3. As a spare it returns an older Rega to correct, stable speed, and on earlier models that used a basic belt it is a genuine upgrade.
When to replace it
A drive belt is a consumable: over the years it loses elasticity and speed starts to drift. If the platter is slow to come up to speed, pitch sounds slightly off or the belt looks slack, it is time for a new one. Fitting takes a few minutes and needs no tools.
Precision built in
Speed stability starts with the shape of the belt. Rega makes the Advanced EBLT with a process closer to precision-component manufacture than to an ordinary rubber band.
Precision moulding
Each belt is moulded in dedicated tooling from a proprietary compound, so diameter and thickness repeat consistently from one belt to the next.
Cryogenic finishing
After moulding the belt is cryogenically frozen and barrelled to remove any excess material. The result is a perfectly round cross-section with no seam to bump the pulley on every revolution.
No seam, no irregularities
Basic belts often have a seam or uneven thickness that causes small, periodic speed variations. The perfectly round section of the Advanced EBLT removes this problem at source.
Measurably less wow
Rega measured the same Planar 1 changing nothing but the belt. The difference is clear in the figures and audible in the steadiness of pitch.
The results
With a standard belt, weighted peak wow/flutter measured 0.253%. With the Advanced EBLT it fell to 0.162%, roughly a third lower, with no other change to the turntable.
What you hear
Less wow means steadier pitch on piano, vocals and sustained notes. Tones sound cleaner and timing more assured, especially with acoustic music.
An upgrade for any Rega
For owners of an older Rega with a basic belt, moving to the Advanced EBLT is one of the most cost-effective improvements: low cost, fitted in minutes and a measurable benefit.
Longer service life
A belt that holds its properties longer means fewer replacements and consistent performance for years.
50% more life
According to Rega, under normal use the Advanced EBLT lasts up to 50% longer than a polychloroprene belt, keeping the elasticity needed for accurate speed.
Wide compatibility
Beyond current Planar models it fits many older tables as a replacement, including P1, P2, P3, P3/24, RP1, RP3, P5, P7 and P9, so it gives fresh life to a turntable of many years.
The next step
If you want even more stability, the Reference EBLT halves wow/flutter compared with the Advanced EBLT.
The Advanced EBLT is standard on the Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus, Planar 2 and Planar 3, fits without tools and is covered by Rega’s Lifetime Limited Warranty (wear and consumables excluded).
