Turntable setup and alignment kit with three tools
The TT-AKIT gathers the three tools needed to set up a turntable properly: a stylus force gauge, a cartridge alignment protractor and a bubble level.
The right tracking force
The gauge measures the force with which the stylus sits in the groove. Too little means instability and distortion, too much means needless wear on the vinyl.
Alignment and levelling
The protractor shows whether the cartridge sits correctly over the groove, and the bubble level confirms the turntable is flat. Both are needed at first setup and whenever a cartridge is changed.
Three adjustments that matter
A turntable that has not been set up properly does not give what it can, and over time it wears the records. The three tools in this kit cover the three adjustments that matter most.
Tracking force
Every cartridge has a force range specified by its maker, usually around two grams. A tonearm counterweight is not always accurate, so the only way to know is to measure.
Cartridge alignment
The stylus should sit tangent to the groove at specific points across the record. The protractor shows whether the cartridge is set straight in the headshell. Poor alignment is heard as distortion that grows towards the centre of the record.
Levelling
If the turntable is not level, the force you set is not the force reaching the groove, and the arm pulls to one side. The bubble level is the first step, before any other adjustment.
