2 x 105 W integrated amplifier with FET preamp, DAC and MM phono stage

The heart of your music

The Rega Elicit MK5 combines elements of three of Rega's most successful products, built on decades of electronic design experience. It is housed in the company's latest case and uses the class A/B power circuit of earlier models, delivering 105 W per channel into 8 Ω, 127 W into 6 Ω and 162 W into 4 Ω. It drives difficult loudspeakers with ease and integrates readily into almost any system.

A higher-quality MM phono stage

The built-in moving magnet phono stage has been upgraded over the previous generation. With 2 mV sensitivity into 47 kΩ / 220 pF and a response from 15 Hz to 85 kHz (−3 dB), it is the natural partner for turntables such as the Planar 3, Planar 6 and Planar 8. For MC cartridges, Rega recommends the external Fono MC.

Complete connectivity

Alongside four line inputs, phono and two digital inputs, the Elicit MK5 offers a Direct input for use as a power amplifier, a record loop, a pre-amp output and a high-performance headphone output. The headphone socket is designed so that speaker switching happens at the output mute relay, keeping the signal path clean. It includes thermal protection and comes with an IR remote control.

A pre-amp from the Aethos

The biggest change in the MK5 is in the pre-amplifier. The Elicit now shares key design elements with the Aethos, the flagship integrated amplifier of its range, bringing much of its performance into a more accessible category.

Discrete FET circuit

The pre-amplifier stage is based on a discrete circuit using FET transistors rather than off-the-shelf integrated circuits. This approach lets Rega's engineers control every parameter of the circuit, resulting in very low noise, wide dynamic range and a natural, open presentation. Even at low volumes, the small details of a recording remain clear and easy to follow.

Alps volume control

Volume is set by an Alps potentiometer, the same type of component used in the Aethos. Accurate channel balance across the whole range ensures a stable stereo image, whether you listen quietly late at night or at high levels. Around the pre-amplifier, inputs are switched by high-quality relays and the signal path uses polypropylene capacitors.

The pre-amp output delivers 760 mV at 600 Ω, so the Elicit MK5 can also act as a pre-amplifier for an external power amplifier, should you wish to expand your system in the future.

The Direct input, with 760 mV sensitivity into 50 kΩ, bypasses the volume control and feeds the power stage directly, ideal for integrating the Elicit MK5 into a home cinema system alongside an AV processor. The record loop and record output link add further flexibility for recorders or a dedicated headphone amplifier.

105 W of controlled power

In the power stage, the Elicit MK5 relies on Rega's proven class A/B circuit, refined through generations of award-winning amplifiers. It delivers 105 W per channel into 8 Ω, rising to 162 W into 4 Ω.

Sanken transistors and a toroidal transformer

The output stage uses Sanken power transistors, known for their linearity and reliability, in a Darlington topology. Energy comes from a large toroidal transformer, giving the amplifier reserves for the sudden dynamic peaks in music. The near-doubling of power from 8 to 4 Ω shows a power supply with real capability, one that does not tire when the loudspeakers demand current.

Control over difficult loudspeakers

The Elicit MK5 can drive loads down to 1 Ω. This makes it suitable for standmount speakers and large floorstanders with demanding impedance curves alike. Bass remains tight and controlled, while the music keeps the rhythm and energy that define Rega.

Because optimum performance requires the bias current to stabilise, Rega has not included automatic power management. The thermal cut-out monitors circuit temperature and protects both amplifier and loudspeakers in extreme conditions.

Typical THD+N on the line input is just 0.007%, while frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 85 kHz (−3 dB). These figures confirm a fast, linear, wide-bandwidth circuit that reaches well beyond the limits of human hearing, preserving timing and the natural decay of instruments.

New Rega DAC

The MK5 adds a new DAC circuit designed by Rega, bringing modern digital sources to the Elicit without the need for an external converter.

Isolated inputs, Wolfson components

The optical and coaxial S/PDIF inputs are galvanically and optically isolated, so noise and ground currents from the source do not reach the analogue stages. The signal is received by a Wolfson S/PDIF receiver and converted by a Wolfson DAC, while a discrete line driver designed by Rega drives the converter's output. The digital signal therefore passes through the same philosophy of discrete circuitry that runs throughout the amplifier.

From CD to high resolution

The DAC supports 16 to 24-bit depth and sample rates of 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz. Connect a network player, CD transport or television and enjoy everything from CD-quality material to high-resolution files, with the musicality you expect from Rega.

The digital section has no USB input; it is designed for external sources via S/PDIF. Together with four line inputs and phono, the Elicit MK5 becomes the hub of a complete system, controlled from one remote, without extra boxes and cables on the shelf.

The rear-panel connections are logically arranged, with the digital inputs grouped separately from the analogue ones, so installation is simple and tidy. Every input is selected from the front panel or the supplied remote control, with clear indication of the active source.
