28x32 Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 audio interface with mixing, effects and networking

The heart of a professional studio

The Motu 848 is a 28-in / 32-out audio interface with Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 connectivity (USB3 and USB2 compatible) for Mac, PC and iOS, with all 60 channels available simultaneously. ESS Sabre32 Ultra converters deliver 125 dB dynamic range, while four mic preamps measuring −129 dBu EIN with up to 74 dB gain offer −20 dB pad, 48 V phantom power, phase reversal, remote control and Hi-Z guitar inputs, with analog inserts on channels 3-4. MOTU drivers deliver round-trip latency of about 1.8 ms (96 kHz, 32-sample buffer).

Control room, 64-channel mixer and Milan AVB

Talkback, A/B/C selection for three pairs of monitors, two headphone outputs and a 3.9" colour display sit on the front panel, while the Monitor Group controls up to twelve outputs for surround up to 7.1.4 Atmos. The 64-channel DSP mixer with EQ, gate, compressor and reverb, the virtual patchbay and the Routing Grid are controlled from the CueMix Pro app on macOS, Windows and iOS, even wirelessly. Two Gigabit AVB ports provide Milan AVB networking with up to 128 channels, and two ADAT optical banks plus word clock complete the connectivity.

Superb analog performance

Renowned ESS Sabre32 DAC technology delivers 125 dB dynamic range and extremely low harmonic distortion, backed by decades of MOTU engineering in audio interfaces.

Four transparent mic channels

With −114 dB THD+N, 118 dB dynamic range and −129 dBu EIN, you capture your material in its truest form. Each channel has individual gain, pad, 48 V phantom power and remote control, while channels 3-4 offer balanced inserts for outboard processing.

CueMix Pro: control from anywhere

The CueMix Pro app controls everything in the 848: device settings, signal routing and 64-channel mixing with effects. Available for macOS, Windows and iOS, it runs on several devices at once and connects wirelessly over Wi-Fi.

A mixer designed like a large-format console

The 64-channel 32-bit floating point mixer takes signal from physical inputs, computer channels or network streams, with 26 aux, main, reverb, monitor and solo busses, plus EQ, gate and compression on every channel.

Milan AVB networking

Two Gigabit AVB ports let you expand your system by daisy-chaining other MOTU AVB devices with standard CAT-5e/CAT-6 cables, with up to 128 audio channels on the network.

Thunderbolt with massive bandwidth

Daisy-chain the 848 with up to six other Thunderbolt devices, with 40 Gbps bandwidth for hundreds of audio channels, 8K video and external drives. A 2 m Thunderbolt 4-compatible USB-C cable is included.
