The new Motu 16A (2025) is a fully redesigned 1U rackmount audio interface for macOS, Windows and iOS. With 16 balanced TRS inputs and 16 balanced TRS outputs, two ADAT optical banks and an independent headphone output, it offers 32 inputs and 34 outputs, 66 simultaneous channels in total. ESS Sabre32 Ultra converters deliver 125 dB dynamic range, while Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 connectivity (USB3 and USB2 compatible) provides round-trip latency of about 1.8 ms (96 kHz, 32-sample buffer). A second Thunderbolt port connects further peripherals such as a display or external drive.
64-channel mixer and Milan AVB networking
The built-in 32-bit floating point DSP provides a 64-channel mixer with 26 aux busses, 4-band EQ, compressor, gate and reverb, plus a virtual patchbay and Routing Grid, all via the CueMix Pro app on computer or iOS. Universal connectivity with Thunderbolt 4, USB4, USB3 and USB2
With top-tier analog performance based on world-renowned ESS Sabre32 Ultra™ DAC technology, the 16A connects to Mac, PC or iOS devices via the included Thunderbolt-compatible USB4 C-to-C cable (USB3 and USB2 are also supported), for up to 256 audio channels (128 inputs and 128 outputs). With class-compliant firmware and industry-standard drivers, it works with all audio applications and delivers round-trip latency (RTL) under 2 ms (at 96 kHz with a 32-sample buffer). A second Thunderbolt port lets you connect additional peripherals such as a second display, external drive, USB hub or Thunderbolt dock.
Virtual patchbay
Using virtual patch cords in CueMix Pro, you can easily route any source to any destination:
- Sources: analog/digital inputs, computer channels, mixer outputs, AVB streams
- Destinations: device outputs, DAW inputs, mixer inputs, other AVB devices or computers
- You can also split a single source to unlimited destinations at the same time.
Mixer and effects processing
The built-in DSP with 32-bit floating point processing offers: 64-channel mixing from any source (analog, digital, host, network), access via the CueMix Pro™ app, 26 aux busses plus main, reverb, monitor and solo busses, double-precision 4-band parametric EQ and compressor on every channel, high-pass filter and gate on every input, and talkback with A/B/C speaker selection for A/B testing.
Flexible networking
The 16A features a built-in AVB switch with two Gigabit Ethernet ports for daisy-chaining up to 8 units of 16A with a simple network cable, with all I/O available from the host computer.
An external AVB switch can also be connected to extend the network over longer distances, with ultra-low latency.
Each 16A supports 128 audio channels on the AVB network (input and output) and is fully compatible with previous MOTU AVB devices.
