Eight preamps, DSP mixing and optical expansion in a half-rack
Eight inputs and a full DSP mixer
The Motu OctaLite is a 16-in / 12-out, 192 kHz USB audio interface in a compact, half-rack steel chassis. It offers eight combo XLR/TRS mic/line/instrument inputs (two on the front, six on the rear) with Burr-Brown op-amp preamps, up to +74 dB of gain, −129 dBu EIN and individual 48 V phantom power on every channel. The onboard DSP mixer provides ultra-low-latency hardware monitoring without loading your computer, independent headphone and monitor mixes and three virtual mix buses, with reverb, 4-band parametric EQ, compression and gating on inputs and buses. Everything is controlled from the CueMix 5 app on Mac, PC or iOS, and several phones and tablets can adjust mixes simultaneously over Wi-Fi.
Interface, standalone mixer or optical expander
The OctaLite also works as a standalone mixer, with or without a computer, or as an optical expander, adding eight mic/line/instrument inputs to an UltraLite-mk5 or another audio interface over a single optical cable at up to 96 kHz. ESS Sabre32 Ultra converters give the balanced outputs 125 dB of dynamic range, and the outputs are DC-coupled to send CV to modular synths. Loopback for livestreaming and podcasting, a high-resolution OLED display with metering for all analog I/O, and MOTU Performer Lite and Ableton Live Lite with over 6 GB of loops and sounds are included. It rack-mounts side by side with an UltraLite-mk5 or a second OctaLite in a single rack space (mounting kit sold separately).
Best-in-class audio quality
The OctaLite analog output is driven by ESS Sabre32 DAC technology with the ES9026PRO DAC, delivering a measured 125 dB dynamic range and −114 dB THD+N. Equipped with Burr-Brown op-amps, the eight mic inputs deliver clean, ultra-quiet, neutral performance with up to +74 dB of preamp gain. Proven MOTU USB drivers provide rock-solid operation and very low latency.
Eight mic inputs in a half-rack unit
As an interface or mixer, the OctaLite provides eight mic/line/instrument inputs in a half-rack form factor. Connect up to eight microphones, or any combination of mics, line-level sources and guitars. The 6.3 mm hi-Z inputs are ideal for DI guitar recording. Connect your speakers to the balanced L-R outputs, along with headphones and 8-channel optical I/O, which alternatively supports stereo TOSLink.
DSP mixing with CueMix 5
The onboard DSP mixer provides ultra-low-latency hardware monitoring, with independent headphone and monitor mixes and three virtual mix buses for routing inside your computer. Reverb, 4-band parametric EQ, compression and gating are available on inputs and buses.
Control from your computer, iPad and iPhone
The mixer and all device settings are controlled from the CueMix 5 app on Mac, Windows and iOS. With a USB-connected computer on the network, several phones and tablets can adjust mixes simultaneously over Wi-Fi. Loopback channels route computer audio, along with live inputs from the OctaLite, back to the computer for podcasting and livestreaming.
Optical expansion, for studio and stage
In addition to USB audio interface operation, the OctaLite is the ideal optical expander for an UltraLite-mk5, 828, 16A or other audio interface, adding eight mic channels over a single optical cable. Its mic input circuits are identical to the UltraLite-mk5, ensuring uniform performance across all ten combined inputs. Setup is easy: just select the analog inputs as the source for the optical output. A second optical output covers channels 5–8 at 88.2 and 96 kHz.
Built for studio and stage
Housed in a compact steel enclosure, the OctaLite is equally at home in the studio and on stage, with or without a computer. The optional half-rack mounting kit makes it rack-ready, and with the coupler kit two OctaLites, or an OctaLite and an UltraLite-mk5, mount side by side: sixteen mic inputs in a single rack space.
