9.4-channel AV amplifier with 11.4 processing, Auro-3D, IMAX Enhanced and 8K

The Denon AVC-X3900H is a 9.4-channel home cinema amplifier with up to 11.4-channel processing and 105 W per channel. It supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Auro-3D and IMAX Enhanced, with 8K HDMI, four subwoofer outputs and HEOS.

One step closer to the cinema room

An AV amplifier for those ready to move from a simple surround system to a truly immersive installation. Nine channels of amplification, processing up to 11.4 and four independent subwoofer outputs provide the tools for a serious home cinema, without needing external power amplification from the start.

Nine amplifiers, many layouts

The built-in amplification drives 9.4, 7.4.2 or 5.4.4 systems, depending on how many height speakers you want to use. The same unit therefore suits both a large living room and a dedicated viewing room.

Expansion to 11.4

The processor handles up to 11.4 channels. By adding an external stereo power amplifier to the pre-outs, the layout can reach 7.4.4, for a full dome of sound above the listening position.

Power with control

Each channel delivers 105 W into 8 ohms with two channels driven and accepts speakers from 4 to 16 ohms. The amplification has ample headroom for dynamic soundtracks and keeps speakers under control at high levels.

Four subwoofers, even bass

Four independent subwoofer outputs allow more low-frequency units to be placed around the room. This reduces bass nulls and peaks, so every seat on the sofa hears almost the same thing.

The Denon sound

Delivery combines power and detail, with natural voice timbre and precise placement of effects, and stays musical and engaging when the amplifier is used for stereo listening.

Formats, picture and calibration

The processing platform covers every current immersive audio format and high-resolution video, with calibration tools that adapt the system precisely to each room.

From Dolby Atmos to Auro-3D

Beyond Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, it decodes Auro-3D and IMAX Enhanced, for content mixed with different immersive philosophies. DTS Neural:X, DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Height Virtualization also expand conventional sources.

Audyssey MultEQ XT32

Audyssey MultEQ XT32, with the supplied microphone, measures multiple points in the room and corrects the response with high filter resolution. Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume maintain tonal balance at any volume, so late-night viewing still sounds full.

Dirac Live option

For even more control, the amplifier accepts an optional Dirac Live licence, with advanced frequency and time correction for a clearer image and tighter bass.

HDMI 2.1 with three outputs

Six HDMI inputs and three outputs, one with eARC, support 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz. Video can be upscaled to 8K with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, while gaming is covered by VRR, ALLM, QFT and AMD FreeSync.

TV and projector together

Multiple outputs allow a TV and a projector to be connected at the same time, or a picture to be sent to a second room, without external HDMI switches. Every source passes through the amplifier, so the sound always reaches the full speaker system in the right format.

Streaming and expandability

The amplifier is designed to be the centre of a system that grows over time, with full streaming, plenty of inputs and pre-outs for every channel.

HEOS, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth

The HEOS platform gives access to Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Deezer and other services, with playback across multiple rooms. AirPlay 2 serves Apple devices, and two-way Bluetooth with LE Audio also sends sound to wireless headphones.

Hi-Res, DLNA and Roon

Over Wi-Fi or Ethernet it plays FLAC, ALAC and WAV files up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD up to 5.6 MHz, including from a home server via DLNA. The unit is Roon Tested.

11.4 pre-outs

Full 11.4-channel pre-outs allow external power amplifiers to be connected, either to expand to more channels or to drive the main pair with a more powerful output stage.

Vinyl and digital sources

The MM phono input accepts a turntable directly, while two optical and two coaxial digital inputs cover CD players, consoles and older sources. A vinyl and CD collection therefore finds its place in the same system as the home cinema.

Zones and control

The Zone 2 output carries music to another room. Control comes from the remote, the HEOS app or voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri.

A system that grows with you

You can start with a 5.2 system and, when the room allows, add height speakers, extra subwoofers or external amplification, without changing the amplifier.
