The LS1c is the flagship of our LS1 active loudspeaker series. It is named after the revolutionary TPCD Carbon Composite tweeter that we developed in cooperation with driver manufacturer Seas. Even more important is that we rebuilt all elements of the LS1 design from the ground up: New electronics with latest generation amplifiers, New audio DSP code, New computer aided calibration method, New firmware New PC/Mac software that controls the entire system. To pick just one example, with the knowledge we gained from developing the MU1 and MU2 FPGA Pure Nyquist filters, we were able to dramatically improve the crossover phase correction filters of the LS1c’s DSP. The LS1c offers an incredible level of integration over the full frequency band The loudspeaker has never sounded so much ‘as one’. Its rendering of the stereo image appears more tactile than ever, its capability for microdynamics exposes unheard details and its extraordinary phase coherency reveals the subtlest rhythmic structures. The SB1 with ‘DMF’ is a technological marvel. By applying ‘Digital Motional Feedback’, a control technology from the renowned Dutch high-tech industry, it became possible to achieve exceptionally low levels of distortion and full dynamic control. With an SB1 added for the bass frequencies, the LS1 system offers low distortion over the full audio band and redefines the term ‘transparency’. This is bass control like you’ve never experienced before.“Digital Motional Feedback offers bass control like you’ve never experienced before.”At frequencies below 100 Hz loudspeaker drivers need to move a vast amount of air and therefore have high excursion levels, while also the fundamental resonance – which is present in any loudspeaker – induces unwanted delayed effects. To apply feedback in electro-mechanical systems like an active loudspeaker, an acceleration sensor needs to be mounted on the cone to monitor its motions. This so called “Motional Feedback” technology has been presented a few times before in history but the precision and control as found in the Grimm Audio SB1 is unique. By adding smart digital processing and current drive, the low distortion of the already high-performance aluminium woofer is further reduced by as much as 30 dB, solving all problems that are related to low frequency resonances and distortion.The SB1 sub is a perfect partner for the LS1v2 and an excellent match for the LS1be. They are the largest speakers in the Exclusive Line and offers unsurpassed realism in sound!The robust enclosure is made out of MDF sheets for rigidity and vibration dampening. Four spacers isolate the heavy base from the enclosure to ensure stability and elimination of jitter. Six UV resistant coats of varnish deliver an immaculate presence for years to come (white varnish will not yellow when exposed to sunlight).The 3-way system includes two 16,5 cm low-range and one 18 cm mid-range drivers as well as a 25 mm high tone fabric dome. The bass reflex port is located in the lower section; the resonance system is tuned in a way to facilitate convenient positioning of the speaker, even close to a wall. In such conditions sound depth and dynamics are emphasised.
