Semi-automatic belt-drive turntable with S-shaped arm, MM cartridge and phono stage

The Denon DP-400 is a semi-automatic belt-drive turntable with an S-shaped tonearm, an MM cartridge and a built-in phono preamplifier. Its modern design and automatic tonearm lift make it ideal for everyday vinyl listening.

Modern design, ready to play

The DP-400 brings analogue listening into a modern, elegant package without asking the user for technical know-how or complicated set-up. Denon designed it for those discovering or rediscovering vinyl who want a turntable that suits their space and sounds right from the very first record, backed by a company that has been working with sound for more than 110 years.

Clean, simple lines

Simple lines and discreet proportions, at 414 x 342 x 132 mm, let the DP-400 sit comfortably in contemporary living rooms and systems of every style. Its 5.8 kg weight, including the cover, gives it a steady footprint on the furniture.

A cover that becomes a stand

The dust cover is not hinged but detachable, so it does not pass vibration into the chassis during playback, a detail that matters for a clean, quiet background. With the supplied stand it sits upright and turns into a display for the sleeve of the record you are playing.

Factory pre-adjusted

The MM cartridge comes pre-mounted and the tonearm pre-adjusted, so set-up is limited to fitting the belt, platter and counterweight. A few minutes are enough to hear the first record.

Sound with the Denon signature

Every Denon product is sonically tuned by the company's sound master, so the result carries the brand's characteristic, musical character. The DP-400 brings that philosophy to a turntable built for everyday use, with no worries about getting the set-up right.

Mechanical precision, gentle handling

Behind the easy operation lies a carefully engineered mechanical base aimed at steady rotation, accurate groove tracking and protection for your records. Every part of the mechanism is designed to deliver a clean, balanced result that is kind to your collection.

Belt drive with speed sensor

A DC motor drives the platter via a belt, keeping motor vibration away from the record. A speed sensor automatically regulates rotation, resulting in wow and flutter of just 0.08% (WRMS). Isolating the motor through a belt is a proven approach in high-fidelity turntables, as it keeps mechanical noise out of the signal path.

S-shaped tonearm

The curved S-shaped tonearm is designed for an optimal tracking angle, so the stylus sits as correctly as possible in the groove across the whole record, reducing harmonic distortion so the sound stays clean from the beginning to the end of each side.

Auto lift at the end

Operation is semi-automatic: you cue the stylus by hand and, when the side ends, the tonearm lifts and rotation stops automatically. The stylus does not run needlessly in the run-out groove, which limits wear and protects both the stylus and the record over years of listening.

Three speeds

The speed selector covers 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm, for LPs, singles and older 78 rpm records. An adapter for large-hole 45 rpm singles is included in the box.

Connecting to any system

The DP-400 is designed to work with modern compact systems and classic stereo amplifiers alike. Flexible connection and upgrade potential make it a choice that can grow with your system, without the need to replace the turntable itself. From the first connection to the next upgrade, it remains the steady core of your analogue source.

Built-in phono preamplifier

The built-in phono preamplifier raises the signal to 150 mV, so the turntable connects directly to a line input, a mini system or an integrated amplifier without a phono input. It responds from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a 65 dB signal-to-noise ratio.

Bypass for an external phono stage

If your amplifier has a quality phono input or you use a separate preamplifier, a switch disables the internal stage and the cartridge signal, 2.5 mV at 1 kHz, passes through untouched to the phono stage of your choice.

Universal headshell

The universal headshell makes it easy to fit a different cartridge in the future, so you can explore another sonic character or upgrade performance without changing turntable. The MM cartridge supplied with the DP-400 is a dependable starting point for your whole collection.

From compact to full system

Pair it with active speakers that have a line input for a simple vinyl set-up, or with an integrated amplifier and passive speakers for a fuller stereo system. The audio cable, power adapter and dust cover stand are included, so you can start right away.
