Abbey Road’s TG2 preamp for your 500 Series rack
The TG2-500 recreates the rare EMI TG12428 preamp from the EMI and Abbey Road recording and mastering consoles of the late ’60s and early ’70s, the sound heard on albums such as The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” and Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon”. For the first time, the legendary TG2 sound is available in 500 Series format.
Chandler Limited took the mic preamp and line amplifier of the TG2 Pre Amp/DI, with the same discrete amplifiers and transformers of the TG series, and fitted them into a 500 Series module without changing the sound: creamy and smooth, with warmth, punch and a surprisingly open top end.
A TG channel in your rack
The TG12345 consoles gave Abbey Road the richer sound of The Beatles’ last records and Pink Floyd’s early ones. With the TG2-500, the first stage of that sound, the preamp, fits into a single 500 Series slot.
The TG2 character
The TG2-500 sounds the same as the rack TG2: warm and creamy, with body and punch, and a small lift in the highs that makes the top end sound beautifully extended. The gentle distortion of the circuit adds density to vocals, guitars and drums.
Gain and inputs
Main gain is set in 5 dB steps from +20 to +50 dB and Fine gain adds ±10 dB, for a maximum of +60 dB. The input takes microphone or line, and selectable 1200 or 300 Ω impedance changes how the microphone behaves. +48 V phantom power and phase reverse complete the functions.
A TG console in 500 Series
Together with the TG Opto compressor and the TG12345 MKIV equalizer, the TG2-500 forms a complete EMI TG console channel inside a 500 Series rack.
