NEED HELP?

Our expert advisors can help you.

MXW70 is Cambridge Audio’s compact power amplifier: 2 × 70 W into 8 Ω with Hypex NCORE Class D amplification, in a chassis just 21.5 cm wide. It bridges into a 250 W mono amplifier and pairs perfectly with the MXN10 streamer or DacMagic 200M DAC.

Key features

  • 2 × 70 W into 8 Ω, 2 × 125 W into 4 Ω
  • Bridge mode: 250 W mono into 8 Ω
  • Hypex NCORE Class D amplification
  • RCA and balanced XLR inputs
  • 12 V trigger in and out
  • Half-width metal chassis

Big power, small size

Despite its small size, MXW70 impresses with its power. It delivers 70 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 125 watts into 4 ohms in stereo, and when bridged becomes a 250-watt mono amplifier. This lets it work with a wide range of speakers, in a living room, study or studio.

Half-width design

At 21.5 cm wide, 5.7 cm high and 21.5 cm deep, MXW70 fits easily into small spaces, on a shelf or beside a computer, without sacrificing sound quality. It weighs just 1.65 kg.

A compact system

MXW70 was designed to work with the MXN10 streamer and DacMagic 200M DAC. Stacked together, they form a complete hi-fi system with high-resolution streaming in a footprint smaller than a record sleeve.

For upgrading

If you already own an integrated amplifier with a pre-out, MXW70 can take over the amplification, while two bridged MXW70s give you a pair of 250 W monoblocks for even greater speaker control.

Praised by the press

MXW70 has earned recognition from the specialist press, which highlighted its clean, dynamic sound and its flexibility for the size and price. Cambridge Audio itself describes it as a future classic of the MX range.

Hypex NCORE amplification

MXW70 is built on Hypex NCORE technology, a benchmark in Class D amplification. The module delivers fluid, dynamic and transparent sound, with total harmonic distortion below 0.015% and a damping factor above 180 for steady driver control.

From deep bass to fine treble

A 10 Hz – 30 kHz (−1 dB) frequency response reproduces every detail, from the deepest bass to the finest highs. Signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 92 dB on the XLR input, so the amplifier stays silent even with sensitive speakers.

Balanced design

The amplification stages accept both balanced and unbalanced signals, with an SMPS power supply delivering stable, efficient power. Standby consumption stays below 0.5 W.

Sensitivity and gain

Input sensitivity is 0.9 V on RCA and 1.9 V on XLR in stereo mode, with gain of 28.8 dB and 22.2 dB respectively. This means MXW70 is driven comfortably by most sources and preamps, from a simple DAC to professional equipment with balanced outputs. Channel separation above 82 dB keeps the soundstage clean and stable, with precise placement of instruments.

Connections and build

For optimal compatibility with modern sources, MXW70 has a stereo RCA input, a studio-grade balanced XLR input and 12 V trigger in and out, so it switches on and off with your source. It connects easily to any preamp, DAC or streamer.

Speaker terminals

The speaker terminals accept 4 mm banana plugs, while a switch on the back selects stereo or bridged mono operation.

Premium build

The metal chassis provides a quality finish, dissipates heat effectively and limits vibration and interference. The clean split-panel front and discreet power button give MXW70 an elegant look that matches the rest of the MX range.

From desk to living room

MXW70 is ideal as the main amplifier in a compact system, and also as part of a larger set-up: for speakers in a second zone, for studio monitors or for driving a passive subwoofer. The power supply accepts both 100–120 V and 200–240 V, and maximum consumption is 300 W.
