Smaller in proportion, equal in ambition
The Vivid Audio GIYA G2 Cu is a four-way, five-driver floorstanding loudspeaker in the new Cu version with copper technology in the midrange. An evolution of the original G1, it offers the same technology and sound quality at 80% of the height and half the volume, making it ideal for medium and large listening rooms.
No resonances, full bass
The G2 Cu follows the design of the larger G1 and G1 Spirit Cu, for exactly the same reasons. The radical enclosure shape removes the resonances and reflections that cloud the music. Treble and upper mid are handled by the metal-dome D26 and D50 with Tapered Tube loading, the lower mid by the C125S and the bass by two C175 drivers.
Instead of stuffing that reduces port output, the reflex box ends in an exponentially tapered absorber horn. This tube, curving over the top of the enclosure, gives the G2 Cu its distinctive profile and clean, punchy bass with full port output. No signature sound of its own: just the music as the artist intended.
Copper in the midrange: lower distortion
The third generation of GIYA brings technology from the flagship MOYA M1. The midrange drivers gain a copper cap on the magnet pole, which noticeably lowers second- and third-harmonic distortion. According to Vivid Audio, third-harmonic distortion drops by 20 dB.
The result is a cleaner, more uncoloured midrange, with voices and instruments that sound more natural. The Cu series also brings redesigned crossovers, lighter and stiffer enclosures, individual MOYA-style driver grilles and easier access to the terminals.
Optional external crossover
All GIYA Cu models are available with an optional external crossover. It is housed in a separate case finished in piano gloss to the same standard as the loudspeaker, with two pairs of input terminals for the same bi-wire and bi-amp options as the standard version. A professional eight-way cable with a metal-cased NL8 connector links the crossover to the loudspeaker.
The crossover can easily be disconnected. With an eight-way cable the loudspeaker can then be driven by four amplifiers through an active crossover, one per driver section. For active operation Vivid Audio also offers a dedicated break out unit.
