The primary focus is on the AMT development resulting in a radically different way of reproducing high frequency detail efficiently and accurately. Similar cabinet technology to ELYSIAN provides a stable and solid foundation for the drive units with radiused edges to help integrate the driver output with the room acoustics. The Evolution of the Award-Winning EVO Series
The Wharfedale EVO 5.3 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker from the new EVO 5 series. Wharfedale kept everything that made the EVO 4 an award-winning showroom favourite and added more luxurious design and technical refinements to every drive unit, the cabinet and the bass reflex port.
High Fidelity in an Affordable Class
The EVO series comes from the same research and development as Wharfedale's flagship Elysian, aiming to bridge affordability and high-end performance. Two 13 cm woven Kevlar woofers, a 50 mm soft-dome midrange and an AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter deliver clear, warm and coherent sound, for demanding listeners and everyday music enjoyment alike. This version is finished in Lunar Grey.
AMT Tweeter for Clear Highs
The EVO series stands out for its AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter, which Wharfedale has evolved further for EVO 5. Instead of a dome or cone, the AMT uses a very thin, light pleated diaphragm between powerful magnets. The pleats contract and expand, squeezing the air in a controlled way.
Four Times the Air, Less Distortion
As a result the AMT moves up to four times more air than a conventional dome tweeter of the same area. The diaphragm moves less, so distortion is lower, transient response faster, dispersion wider and frequency range greater.
Silentweave and ResoFrame
Behind the diaphragm, the new Silentweave material of cotton and felt reduces reflections and colouration. The ResoFrame damping frame and an extra elastomer gasket reduce mechanical resonances. The result is treble that is clear, controlled and free of harshness.
Natural Midrange and Vocals
The EVO 5.3 is a 3-way design: two 13 cm woven Kevlar woofers handle the bass and a 50 mm soft-dome midrange handles the mids, with crossover points at 825 Hz and 4 kHz.
Resoseal Technique
With the new Resoseal technique, a thin elastomer mass ring is applied to the rear of the cone where it meets the surround. This detail refines the midrange response, so vocals sound richer, more natural and more expressive.
Easy to Partner with Amplifiers
With 88 dB sensitivity, 4 Ω nominal impedance (8 Ω compatible) and a recommended 25–150 W, the EVO 5.3 suits a wide range of amplifiers and reaches a 106 dB peak SPL.
Cabinet, Plinth and SLPP Port
Every EVO 5 model has a larger internal cabinet volume, 35.4 litres in the EVO 5.3. The extra volume gives deeper bass, extending to 40 Hz (−6 dB), and a more expansive soundstage.
Hybrid Metal and Wood Plinth
The new hybrid plinth combines metal and wood, strengthening the cabinet structure and reducing unwanted vibration, so the sound stays clean and uncoloured.
Three-Directional SLPP
Wharfedale's SLPP (Slot Loaded Profiled Port) channels the rear output of the woofers into the room through a slot in the base. EVO 5 debuts a three-directional channel, instead of two in EVO 4, reducing turbulence and distortion. Bass is deep yet tight and blends naturally with the mids and highs.
