Loopback functionality makes live internet streaming easy
If you do live streaming or podcasting, you’ll appreciate the MOTU M4’s loopback functionality. Loopback blends your mic or other input signals with the output from your computer, then sends the blended signal back to your computer. This enables you to record your computer’s output, along with the inputted material. The M4 also includes a mix knob for balancing your live input with your computer’s playback.
Hardware monitoring offers zero-latency operation
Latency can really take the mojo out of a performance — it’s a jarring sensation. That’s why the M4 includes 1-touch hardware monitoring. This feature enables all of the interface’s analog inputs to be routed directly to its analog outputs, resulting in zero-latency operation. With a high-performance DAW such as Digital Performer, the 8D delivers an astonishing round trip latency (RTL) of 1.70 ms (milliseconds) on OS X and 1.71 ms on Windows over USB (at 96 kHz with a 32-sample host buffer).
DSP mixing and effects processing
The 8D's 48-input digital mixer delivers 7 stereo aux busses, 3 groups, access to 64 network inputs, and DSP effects, including classic reverb, EQ modeled after British analog console EQs and compression modeled after the legendary LA-2A compressor. If you know your way around a large-format mixing console, you'll feel right at home. With 32-bit floating point processing, the 8D's DSP engine delivers virtually unlimited headroom and the utmost in sound quality.
Web app control
The software that you use to control the 8D doesn't reside on your hard drive. It's a web app served from the hardware itself. This means you can control the 8D'son-board DSP, mixing, and device settings from the web app software running in your favorite web browser on the computer, or even a tablet or smartphone on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
