Technology & Craft
The streaming section of the ND5 XS 2 uses the latest Naim network card featuring low-noise, high-speed low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) to route the digital audio signal. The higher speed is capable of decoding all HD audio formats at up to 32 bits/384 kHz or DSD128. Rather than the source acting as the digital timing master, our new streaming board turns things around and allows our DAC clock to control the flow of audio data. The data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP to an incredible 40-bit accuracy before it’s fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-toanalogue converter.
Developing a new streaming platform was one of the biggest projects we have ever taken on. Naim engineers across all disciplines – electronic, industrial, acoustic and mechanical – worked for three years to create a system that could make the most of online services such as TIDAL and Spotify while adding future-proof flexibility through Chromecast built-in. Supporting faster data rates with dual-band Wi-Fi and the latest 802.11ac protocol, this robust platform was designed for the highest performance on every level.

Streamer, AK4499EX DAC and balanced R2R preamplifier
The Eversolo DMP-A8 combines full streaming capability, a high-performance DAC and an audiophile analogue preamplifier in one unit. It receives music over DLNA, AirPlay, Bluetooth or Roon, has an HDMI ARC input for the TV and is controlled from a 6" touchscreen or the app.
Volume is set by a passive R2R network, so it drives a power amplifier or active speakers directly, while RCA and XLR analogue inputs make it a true preamplifier for the whole system.
AK4499EX with Velvet Sound
The DMP-A8 uses the AKM AK4499EX DAC together with the AK4191EQ modulator, an architecture that separates digital processing from analogue conversion. AKM's Velvet Sound technology preserves the harmonic richness and detail of the music.
Femtosecond timing
Two Accusilicon femtosecond oscillators at 45.1584 MHz and 49.152 MHz serve both sample-rate families and reduce jitter.
Hi-Res up to DSD512
It plays PCM up to 32-bit / 768 kHz and DSD up to DSD512, from streaming, the internal SSD or your computer via the USB-B port, which uses an XMOS 316 interface.
Measurements
The XLR output delivers 4.2 V with SNR above 128 dB and THD+N below 0.00009%, with 20 Hz – 20 kHz response (±0.25 dB).
Balanced R2R preamplifier
The analogue architecture is fully balanced, with passive R2R volume control built from resistors and relays. Volume changes with no loss of resolution, and the unit drives a power amplifier or active speakers directly.
Dual power supply
A linear supply with a toroidal transformer feeds the analogue stages, while a separate switch-mode supply runs the display and data processing, for less noise and interference.
Analogue inputs
RCA and XLR inputs take a turntable with phono stage, a CD player or other analogue sources, so the DMP-A8 becomes the centre of the whole system.
Fixed level
If you already own an integrated amplifier, the outputs switch to fixed level and the unit works as a streamer and DAC.
Streaming, Roon and AirPlay
The EOS operating system (Eversolo Original Sampling-rate Audio Engine) plays TIDAL, Qobuz, HighResAudio, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, Napster and more bit-perfect, controlled from the 6" touchscreen or the app.
Roon Ready and DLNA
Roon Ready certified, it plays from a NAS, computer or Roon server on the local network, as well as from an internal SSD (not included).
AirPlay and high-quality Bluetooth
AirPlay for Apple devices and Bluetooth 5.0 (Qualcomm QCC5125) with aptX HD and LDAC for Android and Windows.
