Technology & Craft
The streaming section of the ND5 XS 2 uses the latest Naim network card featuring low-noise, high-speed low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) to route the digital audio signal. The higher speed is capable of decoding all HD audio formats at up to 32 bits/384 kHz or DSD128. Rather than the source acting as the digital timing master, our new streaming board turns things around and allows our DAC clock to control the flow of audio data. The data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP to an incredible 40-bit accuracy before it’s fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-toanalogue converter.
Developing a new streaming platform was one of the biggest projects we have ever taken on. Naim engineers across all disciplines – electronic, industrial, acoustic and mechanical – worked for three years to create a system that could make the most of online services such as TIDAL and Spotify while adding future-proof flexibility through Chromecast built-in. Supporting faster data rates with dual-band Wi-Fi and the latest 802.11ac protocol, this robust platform was designed for the highest performance on every level.

Dual ES9038Q2M DAC
At the heart of the DMP-A6 Gen 2 Master Edition are two ESS ES9038Q2M converters in a balanced layout: each channel has its own DAC, so left and right are converted fully independently. The result is better channel separation and a cleaner, more stable stereo image.
Hi-Res without compromise
It plays PCM up to 32-bit / 768 kHz, DSD up to DSD512 and MQA streams. The XMOS XU316 USB controller and Eversolo's audio engine keep the signal bit-perfect all the way to conversion, whether you play from a streaming service or from your computer over USB.
Clock and power
The second-generation dual Femto clock, built on very low-noise oscillators, keeps jitter to a minimum. A new linear power supply with noise below 40 µV feeds the analogue stages with clean current, for a blacker background and more detail.
Reference measurements
The balanced XLR output delivers 5.2 V, with dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio above 128 dB and THD+N below 0.000087% (−121 dB). Frequency response stays flat from 20 Hz to 20 kHz within just ±0.15 dB, figures usually found on far more expensive DACs.
All your music, one screen
The 6" front touchscreen on an aluminium chassis shows album art, file resolution and track details, and can turn into a pair of analogue-style VU meters. Everything on the screen can also be done from the Eversolo Control app for iOS and Android.
Streaming with no extra boxes
Android on a quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 processor runs TIDAL, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, HighResAudio, Napster and internet radio directly. It is Roon Ready certified, plays from a NAS or computer over DLNA, accepts AirPlay 2 and has a Bluetooth 5.0 receiver.
Your own library
An internal bay takes an SSD of up to 4 TB for your files, and two USB-A ports read external drives. With an external USB CD drive you can play CDs or rip them to the unit.
Wakes from your phone
Wake on LAN, one of the most requested features, powers the unit on straight from the app, without getting up. Firmware updates arrive over the network and keep adding new functions.
Connects to the whole system
The DMP-A6 Gen 2 Master Edition is a streamer, DAC and preamplifier at once. The balanced XLR and the RCA outputs are variable, so it can drive a power amplifier or active speakers directly, or run at fixed level into an integrated amplifier.
TV, CD, computer
The new HDMI ARC input brings TV sound into your stereo. Optical and coaxial inputs take a CD player or other digital sources, the USB port turns it into a DAC for Windows or Mac, and USB, optical, coaxial and HDMI digital outputs feed an external DAC. The trigger output switches your amplifier on with it.
Tuned to your room
Graphic EQ, gain adjustment and parametric EQ, with separate DSP for each output. The Texas Instruments OPA1612 op-amps in the balanced preamp stage and the EVC volume algorithm keep the signal shape identical at every level. With the Eversolo EM-01 microphone you can also calibrate the room acoustically.
Home cinema too
The HDMI output sends multichannel PCM up to 192 kHz or DSD64 to an AV receiver, so the DMP-A6 Gen 2 Master Edition can also be the music source of a multichannel system.
