DC Block 6 is designed to improve the quality of AC electricity that powers audio and AV systems.

Electrical current has a fundamental effect on the audio signal as it passes through a system, from the source and amplifiers to the speakers.

The supply in a typical home is subject to interference caused by a number of problems, causing the AC waveform to be distorted before it reaches each device. This creates noise in the audio signal, which degrades the sound quality – a situation that continues to be demonstrated as more and more devices are added to the electric home's electrical network.

DC power supply

A common problem is 'mains DC' – a problem known to affect the performance of audio equipment, especially amplifiers. In theory, the electrical current we receive from the outlets in our homes should be pure AC, with a perfectly symmetrical sine wave that alternates between positive and negative phases.

DC voltage

AC power transformers commonly used in home audio equipment cannot tolerate the presence of significant DC voltage levels without compromise. Less than 500 mV DC - typical in an average household power supply - can be enough to saturate transformers of the kind often found in amplifiers, which adversely affects sound performance and can cause audible mechanical vibration.

By blocking or canceling the DC voltage found in the AC supply, the DC BLOCK 6 corrects the DC offset and rebalances the grid sine wave. However, dealing with 'DC to mains' is not the only benefit this double-acting device offers – it also contains a high-performance audio-grade filtering circuit that removes RFI/EMI contaminants from the power supply. This is effective at reducing both differential-mode noise (exacerbated by the cheap switch-mode power supplies used by many home appliances) and common-mode noise (exacerbated by airborne interference from phones, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks).
