Technology & Craft
The streaming section of the ND5 XS 2 uses the latest Naim network card featuring low-noise, high-speed low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) to route the digital audio signal. The higher speed is capable of decoding all HD audio formats at up to 32 bits/384 kHz or DSD128. Rather than the source acting as the digital timing master, our new streaming board turns things around and allows our DAC clock to control the flow of audio data. The data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP to an incredible 40-bit accuracy before it’s fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-toanalogue converter.
Developing a new streaming platform was one of the biggest projects we have ever taken on. Naim engineers across all disciplines – electronic, industrial, acoustic and mechanical – worked for three years to create a system that could make the most of online services such as TIDAL and Spotify while adding future-proof flexibility through Chromecast built-in. Supporting faster data rates with dual-band Wi-Fi and the latest 802.11ac protocol, this robust platform was designed for the highest performance on every level.

The Eversolo AMP-F8 is a Class AB stereo power amplifier delivering 2 × 180 W into 8 Ω and 2 × 280 W into 4 Ω, and up to 500 W into 8 Ω when bridged to mono. Dual-mono DAC with AK4191 + AK4499, R2R preamp and Class A headphone amp
The Eversolo DAC-Z10 is a high-end digital-to-analogue converter for listeners who want precision and musicality without compromise. Its Fully Isolated Architecture (FIA) separates digital and analogue circuits physically and electrically, and each channel has its own AKM AK4191 + AK4499 pair.
With a balanced R2R preamplifier, built-in Class A headphone amplifier, OCXO clock and 8.8" touchscreen, it becomes the centre of a digital system, an ideal match for a streaming transport such as the Eversolo T8.
FIA architecture and dual mono
Eversolo's Fully Isolated Architecture (FIA) completely separates digital and analogue circuits. Three independent low-noise linear supplies serve the left channel, the right channel and the system separately.
Two AK4191 + AK4499 pairs
Each channel has its own AKM chip pair, with the AK4191 modulator and AK4499 DAC in dual-mono layout. AKM's Velvet Sound technology keeps the sound natural, with PCM up to 768 kHz / 32-bit and DSD512.
OCXO and FPGA
An oven-controlled OCXO clock with PLL correction reduces jitter, while an FPGA rebuilds the I²S signal and refines timing before conversion. It also accepts a 10 or 25 MHz external clock.
Measurements
At the XLR output: 5 Vrms, THD+N 0.00008% (−122 dB), SNR 130 dB and crosstalk −130 dB, with 20 Hz – 20 kHz response (±0.1 dB).
R2R preamp and headphones
Volume is set in the analogue domain by a two-channel R2R resistor ladder, so the DAC-Z10 drives a power amplifier such as the Eversolo AMP-F8 or AMP-F10 directly through its balanced XLR or RCA outputs.
Class A headphone amplifier
The 6.35 mm output is driven by a Class A amplifier with automatic impedance adjustment, up to 7 Vrms on high gain and SNR above 124 dB. With three gain levels it drives headphones from 16 to 300 Ω.
Analogue sources
XLR and RCA analogue inputs let you connect sources such as a turntable with phono stage or a CD player, with the DAC-Z10 acting as preamplifier.
Trigger
Trigger in/out ports for synchronised power-on with other components.
