Closed-back over-ear headphones with walnut cups and 50 mm FreeEdge drivers
The Denon AH-D7200 are closed-back over-ear reference headphones with genuine walnut earcups, an aluminium and leather headband and 50 mm FreeEdge drivers made in Japan. They deliver rich, detailed, Hi-Res Audio certified sound.
Walnut, aluminium and leather
With the AH-D7200, Denon treats materials as part of the acoustic design rather than mere decoration. Natural wood, metal and leather work together to create a headphone that stands out both when you listen and when you hold it, with the care of Japanese craftsmanship in every detail of its construction.
Genuine walnut earcups
The earcups are made from genuine walnut. Beyond its elegant appearance, the wood absorbs unwanted vibrations and contributes to the warm, rich tonal balance that defines this model, while every pair has its own distinctive grain pattern.
Aluminium and leather headband
The headband combines lightweight aluminium with a genuine leather covering and a memory foam cushion. It adjusts to six positions via a bearing mechanism, for smooth movement and a secure fit on every head shape and size.
Swivelling earcups
The earcups swivel to follow the natural angle of your ears. Combined with the memory foam ear pads, pressure is spread evenly and the seal around the ear stays consistent, which also helps the bass remain full.
Comfort for hours
Weighing 385 g with a carefully considered weight distribution, the AH-D7200 stays comfortable through long listening sessions. The cable and ear pads are replaceable for a long service life.
Japanese craftsmanship
The drivers and the cable are made in Japan, and the wooden earcups are joined to the metal parts with a precision you notice from the first touch. The result is a headphone that feels like a collector’s piece, yet has been built for enjoyable, everyday use rather than for sitting on a shelf.
FreeEdge drivers from Japan
In the end, a headphone’s sound is decided at the driver. Denon designs and builds its own drivers in Japan, aiming for a diaphragm that responds instantly to the signal and reproduces music with naturalness, warmth and a wealth of detail, without any harshness creeping into the upper registers.
Nanofibre diaphragm
Each earcup houses a 50 mm dynamic driver with a paper-based nanofibre diaphragm. The material combines low mass with high stiffness, so the diaphragm moves quickly and stops just as quickly, without overhang that would blur the music.
FreeEdge suspension
FreeEdge technology lets the edge of the diaphragm move freely. Movement becomes more uniform, distortion falls and the sound takes on a light, open character that lets instruments breathe.
Resin mounts
The drivers sit on acoustic resin mounts that damp vibrations. The music is not affected by enclosure resonances and stays clear across the entire spectrum, even at higher volume levels.
Hi-Res Audio certified
With a response from 5 Hz to 55 kHz, the AH-D7200 is Hi-Res Audio certified and fully reproduces high-resolution files. The closed-back design keeps the music in and the noise out.
Warm, detailed character
The partnership between the walnut cups and the FreeEdge drivers produces a sound that combines warmth with detail. Bass has body without becoming bloated, voices sound close and natural, and the treble keeps its sparkle without turning aggressive. This is a headphone that invites you to listen to whole albums from start to finish.
Cable and source matching
A headphone in this class will usually be connected to a dedicated headphone amplifier or a quality amplifier in your hi-fi system. Denon equips it accordingly, with a cable that matches the quality of the rest of the design and electrical characteristics that make it compatible with a wide range of sources at home.
7N copper cable
The detachable 3 m cable is made in Japan with 7N-purity copper conductors. The high purity of the metal ensures the signal reaches the drivers without any loss of detail along the way.
Y-type connection
The cable is Y-shaped, with a 6.35 mm plug at the source end and a separate 3.5 mm plug for each earcup. The detachable connection protects the headphones from accidental tugs and makes replacement easy.
Easy to drive
With an impedance of 25 ohms and a sensitivity of 105 dB/mW, the AH-D7200 sounds dynamic even with modestly powered sources. It also handles input power of up to 1.8 W, so it works safely with powerful amplifiers too.
Everything you need in the box
Along with the headphones you receive the cable and a cleaning cloth for looking after the wooden surfaces. You are ready to listen from the very first moment.
From amplifier to portable player
At home, connected to a dedicated headphone amplifier or to your amplifier’s headphone output, the AH-D7200 reveals its full resolution. Thanks to its low impedance it also works comfortably with portable hi-fi players, using a 6.35 mm to 3.5 mm adapter where needed.
