Legendary Console Preamp that Fits in Your Rack
Some of music’s most recognizable records of the ’60s and ’70s ran through the A-Range preamps in one custom Sound Techniques console at Trident Studios in London. To capture that same sound in a unit that fits your rack, Warm Audio built the Jude-MP, a single-channel microphone preamp designed in collaboration with Sound Techniques and Geoff Frost, the engineer who drew the original A-Range preamp schematic.
The Jude-MP preserves the complete original signal path, with a dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifier that gives your sources the depth and presence that made the Trident Studios console legendary. The 9-position Z-Match control sets how your microphone loads the input, for both vintage and modern microphones.
Put your lead vocal, kick drum or guitar cab through the Jude-MP and you are effectively tracking through the same circuit that shaped one of rock ’n’ roll’s most beloved eras. For stereo work there is also a two-channel version, the Jude-MP2.
The Original A-Range Circuit
Plenty of gear has promised the Trident sound: the punch, depth and musicality heard on some of London’s most famous recordings. The Jude-MP is built from the actual console schematics used to produce them.
The Complete Signal Path
Every stage of the A-Range preamp signal path is carried over to the Jude-MP, with its dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifier and proprietary 8-lead impedance-matching control reproduced stage for stage. The weight and midrange presence of those classic Trident records came directly from this circuit.
Designed by Its Creator
The Jude-MP is an official collaboration between Sound Techniques and Warm Audio, designed by Geoff Frost, the engineer of the original A-Range preamp, from his own console schematics.
Handwired, Console-Grade Components
Sound Techniques specified this build down to the capacitor, and Warm Audio followed suit.
Components That Matter
Wima and Nichicon audio-grade capacitors, carbon resistors and CineMag USA transformers wound to custom specs populate a handwired board layout of Sound Techniques’ own design.
Built and Tested by Hand
Each unit is assembled to console-grade standards, then hand-tested and inspected by Warm Audio’s technicians before shipping. Preserving the integrity of the original design was crucial, and it is this attention to detail that gives the Jude-MP its authentic character.
Fine-Tune Every Mic with Z-Match
The 9-position Z-Match control comes from the original console design and is a re-creation of Geoff Frost’s 8-lead impedance-matching circuit.
How Mic and Preamp Interact
Z-Match changes how the preamp and the microphone interact at the input, so you can dial in gain, response and character for each microphone. Input impedance is selectable at 60 ohm, 200 ohm and 1.5 kOhm, and gain ranges from 65 to 76 dB.
From Vintage Ribbons to Modern Condensers
According to Sweetwater’s studio engineers, Z-Match behaves wonderfully across vintage ribbons and modern condensers alike, making it easier to capture the sound you are after right at the source.
