Legendary Console Preamp that Fits in Your Rack

Some of music’s most recognizable records of the '60s and '70s ran through the A-Range preamps in one custom Sound Techniques console at Trident Studios in London. To capture that same sound in a rack-friendly unit, Warm Audio built the Jude-MP2 stereo microphone preamp, designed in collaboration with Sound Techniques and Geoff Frost, the engineer who drew the original A-Range preamp schematic. The Jude-MP2 preserves the complete original signal path, featuring stereo dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifiers that provide your sources with the depth and forward push that made the Trident Studios console legendary. Additionally, the 9-position Z-Match control sets how your microphone loads the input, optimizing mic and preamp interplay for both vintage and modern microphones. Put your room mics, drum overheads, or piano pair through the Jude-MP2, and you are effectively tracking through the same console that shaped one of rock ’n’ roll's most beloved eras.

The original A-Range circuit

Plenty of gear has promised the Trident sound: the punch, depth, and musicality heard on some of London's most famous recordings. The Jude-MP2 is built from the actual console schematics used to produce them. In the Jude-MP2, every stage of the A-Range preamp signal path is carried over, with its dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifiers and proprietary 8-lead impedance-matching control reproduced channel-for-channel. The weight and midrange presence you hear on those classic Trident records came directly from this preamp circuit, and with the Jude-MP2 in your rack, your signals will track through that same circuit.

Handwired, console-grade components

Sound Techniques specified this build down to the capacitor, and Warm Audio followed suit: Wima and Nichicon audio-grade capacitors, carbon resistors, and CineMag transformers wound to custom specs all populate a handwired board layout of Sound Techniques' own design. Each unit is assembled to console-grade standards, then hand-tested and inspected by Warm Audio's technicians before shipping. Preserving the integrity of the original design was crucial to Warm Audio, and it's this attention to detail and craftsmanship that gives the Jude-MP2 its authentic character.

Fine-tune every mic with Z-Match

Procured from the original console design, the 9-position Z-Match control is a re-creation of Geoff Frost's 8-lead impedance-matching circuit. The Z-Match tone control changes how the preamp and the microphone interact at the input, allowing you to optimize and dial in gain, response, and character across various microphones. Sweetwater studio engineers report that Z-Match behaves wonderfully across vintage ribbons and modern condensers alike, making it that much easier for you to capture the sound you're after right at the source.
