Grimm Audio’s CC1 V2 brings the incredible clock stability of the AD1 to your current setup! The CC1 V2 accepts Word Clock and distributes a super high quality Word Clock sync to all equipment in your system. Alternatively, use the CC1 to reclock and de-jitter the s/pdif digital audio connection between your CD transport or media server and DAC (a set of XLR-RCA conversion cables is provided with the unit). Grimm Audio’s extensive research into the correlation between jitter and sound quality brought to light that emotional response to music is vastly more sensitive to jitter than previously realized. Attention turned from “making jitter low” to achieving the most stable clock possible.
Marketing tends to express a clocking circuit’s performance in a “the lower the better” ppm (parts per million) or picosecond (1 picosecond = 1 trillionth of a second) number. Hence the claim that Atomic clocks are “the best” for audio because of their accuracy.
Atomic clocks are “accurate”.Some are only a second off in a century (about three billion seconds): an average accuracy of 0.3 parts per billion or 0.0003ppm. That’s the sort of thing they were designed for. Does that imply that they are only one three-billionth of a second off in one second? Not at all. When a clock runs one millisecond late during one second and one millisecond early during the next, it’s basically correct again. So long as these short term errors don’t accumulate over time, they do not disqualify the clock as a timepiece. But you will agree that it would not merit the name “stable”.
On the other hand, a clock that is one second off every day could still manage to slice every second into tiny slivers that are just perfectly equal. Accuracy and stability are two very different things.

Grimm Audio’s research turned up a surprising array of previously underestimated performance factors that affect a clocking circuit’s stability, like power supply noise, oscillator control circuit noise and low-level crosstalk. The end result is that owing to a radically redesigned discrete crystal oscillator, clock stability betters that of even the best test equipment available.
To sync to an external reference the CC1 sports a PLL offering an astounding 90 dB of jitter suppression at 10 Hz, further improving at 60 dB/dec. The CC1 offers base rates of 44.1kHz and 48kHz and 1/2/4 multiples in separately selectable groups, in addition to an AES/EBU reclocker for cleaning the digital feed to your DA converter. Like all Grimm Audio products, the CC1 features striking styling and solid build quality.

Grimm Audio LS1i USB Interface
Every set (except the LS1a) also comes with a USB interface that facilitate connection of a Windows or Mac PC. It can be used to play audio from the computer directly into the LS1. Mac’s have native support, PC’s require a special driver. Via the same USB connection, the LS1 remote software can be used to setup the system.
An LS1i can also be used as generic USB audio interface by people that need a high performance two channel digital audio interface.

The Completion…A pair of LS1s stereo subwoofers integrate seamlessly with the LS1. Its phase corrected crossover at 70 Hz is already built in the LS1, so just adding the subs turns the system into a unique phase coherent three-way system. Although the LS1 on its own can play down to 40 Hz with quite impressive power, the bottom octave down to 20 Hz is hard to produce with a two-way loudspeaker system. Especially classical music does benefit from a balanced reproduction of these ultra low frequencies. The SB1 with ‘DMF’ is a technological marvel. By applying ‘Digital Motional Feedback’, a control technology from the renowned Dutch high-tech industry, it became possible to achieve exceptionally low levels of distortion and full dynamic control. With an SB1 added for the bass frequencies, the LS1 system offers low distortion over the full audio band and redefines the term ‘transparency’. At frequencies below 100 Hz loudspeaker drivers need to move a vast amount of air and therefore have high excursion levels, while also the fundamental resonance – which is present in any loudspeaker – induces unwanted delayed effects. The result is that all conventional loudspeakers exhibit a rising distortion in the bass region with additional “thickening” of the bass by the resonance.
In electronics, feedback is used to minimise distortion. To apply feedback in electro-mechanical systems like an active loudspeaker, an acceleration sensor needs to be mounted on the cone to monitor its motions. This so called “Motional Feedback” technology has been presented a few times before in history but the precision and control as found in the Grimm Audio SB1 is unique. By adding smart digital processing and current drive, the low distortion of the already high-performance aluminium woofer is further reduced by as much as 30 dB, solving all problems that are related to low frequency resonances and distortion.
The SB1 sub is a perfect partner for the LS1v2 and an excellent match for the LS1be. It is even a smart extension for the LS1a. A switch facilitates use of the SB1 with third party systems, so the virtues of Digital Motional Feedback can be enjoyed by many.
