Since 1979, Focal has nurtured a sensitive approach to acoustics, rooted in the precision of human touch and the nobility of materials. The Focal Crafts atelier continues this by celebrating authentic craftsmanship and exploring traditional techniques. Each Focal Crafts creation is unique, the result of meticulous work that enhances the subject without altering its essence.

Loudspeakers as contemplative works of art
The masterry of gesture
Grande Utopia, Stella, Maestro, Scala, Diva… Thirteen pairs of Utopia loudspeakers are adorned with a patinated leather finish.
Each piece has been crafted by hand, with precision and meticulous care.
The application of a nourishing, pigmented cream gives rise to subtle colour gradients, from the lightest to the darkest tones, elevated by the artisan’s touch.
Then, the colour is set, and the finishing stages, known as “glazing”, enhance the entire surface.
Several drying periods are required; patina and patience become one.
The art of patina
From shoemaking to patina and leather polishing, the art of the shoemaker is multifaceted. By embracing this craft, we bring leather to life and give an authentic signature to the loudspeakers — each one like a unique canvas in a collection of thirteen Focal Utopia masterpieces.
THE MATERIAL AS MAIN FEATURE
The leather is semi-aniline cowhide. Handworked and carefully applied to the loudspeakers, it offers a natural and supple grain. We selected a palette of colours that blends subtly with the lacquered finishes.
A Truly Unique Set
A set consisting of two side tables and a pair of Bathys wireless hi-fi headphones accompanies the loudspeakers. Crafted in our workshops, these exceptional pieces are also adorned with patinated leather, forming a perfectly balanced aesthetic ensemble. The set embodies the elegance of the material and the refinement of French craftsmanship.
