Audio Technica ATH-AD700X

The ATH-AD700X is an open-back reference-style headphone designed for spacious, natural sound rather than isolation or heavy bass. Its open-air design eliminates pressure buildup around the ears, creating a very wide soundstage and airy presentation that’s especially popular for gaming and critical listening. The lightweight aluminum honeycomb housing further reduces resonance, helping maintain clarity in the mids and highs. The focus is on comfort and mid/high-frequency detail rather than impact or low-end power. Large 53 mm drivers with CCAW voice coils deliver clean, detailed sound, while the signature 3D wing support system automatically adjusts to the head for long listening sessions. This makes it ideal for vocals, classical, and positional audio, but less suited for bass-heavy genres or portable use. Audio Technica ATH-ADX5000 Reference

Audio Technica ATH-ADX5000The ATH-ADX5000 Reference represents Audio-Technica’s flagship vision of what an open-back dynamic headphone can achieve when every engineering decision is focused purely on sound quality. Rather than chasing exaggerated bass or artificial detail, the ADX5000 is built around speed, openness, tonal purity, and spatial realism. Its presentation is often described as exceptionally airy and holographic, with an almost speaker-like sense of space and instrument separation that places it among the elite tier of dynamic-driver audiophile headphones. Community impressions frequently compare its technical ability to models like the HD800S and Focal Utopia, especially in terms of imaging precision, detail retrieval, and openness. The core of the headphone is a newly developed 58 mm integrated driver system that combines the diaphragm, baffle, voice coil, and magnetic structure into a single highly rigid assembly. This design minimizes unwanted resonance and mechanical distortion, allowing the tungsten-coated diaphragm and Permendur magnetic circuit to deliver extremely fast transient response and high-resolution detail reproduction. Audio-Technica’s proprietary Core Mount Technology positions the driver precisely within the acoustic chamber to optimize airflow and create a more natural soundstage with improved coherence across the frequency range. The construction philosophy also prioritizes long-session comfort without compromising rigidity or acoustic performance. The magnesium frame keeps the weight surprisingly low for a flagship-class headphone, while Alcantara pads and headband materials improve comfort, durability, and breathability. Every unit is assembled in Japan and individually serialized, reinforcing the product’s boutique, reference-grade identity. Unlike many modern high-end headphones that lean heavily into DSP or convenience features, the ADX5000 is unapologetically purist: wired-only, open-back, and designed for dedicated amplification and critical listening setups. Key Features:Flagship open-back “Air Dynamic” reference headphoneIntegrated 58 mm driver architecture for reduced resonanceTungsten-coated diaphragm for high rigidity and transient speedGerman Permendur magnetic circuit for high magnetic efficiencyCore Mount Technology for optimized airflow and imagingUltra-open honeycomb aluminum housing designMagnesium alloy frame for lightweight rigidityAlcantara headband and earpads for premium comfortDetachable A2DC cable systemHand-assembled in Japan with serialized constructionDesigned for high-end amplification and reference listeningExtremely wide soundstage and high-detail presentation
