In launching the closed-back DT 700 PRO X, we are unveiling circumaural studio headphones, which are set to usher in a new era for the long-established, Heilbronn-based company. While our classics of the PRO X series are regarded as reference products in professional studios all over the world, the new PRO line is suitable for flexible use both in the studio and while on the move. It is all made possible by the newly developed STELLAR.45 driver that loudly reproduces the best sound in studio quality without any distortion – with all playback devices.
The STELLAR.45 sound transducer, developed and produced in Heilbronn, Germany, delivers that proven beyerdynamic sound at previously unattained levels of studio-headphones-class performance. This is down to the neodymium ring magnet as well as copper-clad high-tech wire. The trade-off between electrical conductivity and the weight of the wire is unique. In combination with the newly developed three-layer speaker diaphragm featuring integrated damping layer, this has created a highly efficient driver system that performs superbly on all playback devices.The innovative membrane structure controls the axial motion of the voice coil and ensures that it remains securely positioned in the magnet gap even during high oscillations. The Focal Listen Professional are closed-back, circum-aural monitoring headphones designed as an everyday tool for production, recording and mixing. The closed design provides very good isolation from outside noise, making them ideal for tracking with an open microphone and for quiet work environments, while their balanced tonality makes it easier to balance instruments and frequencies.
At their heart is a 40 mm driver with a Mylar/Titanium alloy membrane, made in France, delivering lively, dynamic sound with clean, well-controlled low frequencies. With 32 ohm impedance they are easily driven by audio interfaces, consoles and portable devices. They come with a hard carrying case, a 5 m coiled cable, a 1.4 m straight cable and a 6.35 mm adaptor.
Isolation and comfort
The closed design and engineered ear cushions provide very good isolation from outside noise. Sound does not leak out, so the Listen Professional are well suited to recording vocals or instruments next to an open microphone.
Built for long sessions
The headband combines comfort, strength and torsion-resistant articulation. Its constant profile, whatever the size of the head, spreads the 280 g weight evenly with no pronounced pressure points. Heat-sensitive memory foam cushions, 22 mm thick, adapt to every face shape.
Durable construction
The structured black coating of the earcups resists shocks and scratches, and the headphones fold for easy storage and transport.
Lively, dynamic sound
The Listen Professional combine the isolation of a closed-back headphone with a sound that recalls semi-open designs. The presentation is lively and open, without the boxed-in character often found in this category.
40 mm Mylar/Titanium driver
The 40 mm driver, made in France, uses a Mylar/Titanium alloy membrane. It respects the dynamics of the original signal and accurately reproduces the details of the recording across the whole spectrum, from 5 Hz to 22 kHz. Low frequencies are cleanly articulated, which is rare for closed studio headphones.
Listen to your music, not your headphones
The balanced tonality lets you judge instrument balance, EQ and levels correctly, so the decisions you make on headphones translate properly to speakers.
Ready for the studio
The Listen Professional come with everything you need to work from day one. The 5 m coiled cable gives freedom of movement while tracking and mixing, and the 1.4 m straight cable is practical for portable use. Both are made of OFC copper.
Secure connection
The detachable cable connects via a 4-conductor 3.5 mm jack with a locking mechanism, so it does not disconnect by accident. The 6.35 mm adaptor allows connection to consoles, headphone amplifiers and audio interfaces.
Carrying case and running-in
The hard case protects the headphones on the move and on sessions outside the studio. The drivers need a few hours of use to reach full performance; for faster results, Focal recommends at least 24 hours of playback at a fairly high level with bass-rich music.
