Powered bookshelf speakers with AMT tweeter and 6-inch woofer
The TUK Grand 2nd Gen is the largest powered pair in the TUK range. It pairs a 28 × 35 mm Air Motion Transformer tweeter with a 6-inch Aircomb aluminium woofer and a Class-D amplifier rated at 160 W RMS (320 W peak) with DSP, in a hand-built cabinet finished in walnut with rose gold detailing.
One powered and one passive speaker
The set is sold as a pair. The powered speaker carries the amplification and every connection and drives the passive one through the 5 m speaker cable supplied. The channels can be swapped, so the powered cabinet can sit on the left or the right to suit the room. A 1/4"-20 thread in the base of each cabinet accepts floor stands or wall brackets.
Connections for every source
Two RCA line inputs, optical TOSLINK and USB-C accept up to 24-bit / 96 kHz, while Bluetooth 5.4 supports aptX Adaptive, AAC and SBC. A subwoofer output with a selectable 80 Hz filter lets the system grow, and a USB-A port charges a device at 5 V / 2 A. An infrared remote is included.
Grand scale
The 6-inch Aircomb aluminium woofer is what sets the TUK Grand apart within the range. It takes the response down to 40 Hz, ten hertz lower than the TUK 2nd Gen, and it does so inside a 21.8 × 29.5 × 35 cm cabinet with the volume to support it.
Bass with body, not bulk
The difference reads as more complete rather than simply louder. Low notes gain texture and a clean stop, the body of a guitar and the left hand of a piano take on weight, and mixes no longer sound cut off at the bottom. In a medium-sized room the pair plays comfortably without a subwoofer.
Ready to grow
When the room asks for more, the subwoofer output with its selectable 80 Hz filter hands the work over: the speakers are relieved of the lowest frequencies and the 160 W RMS Class-D amplifier concentrates on the midrange and treble. The same filter switch also works as a high-pass, so the system stays balanced with or without a subwoofer.
Expansive detail
The 28 × 35 mm Air Motion Transformer tweeter does not work like a dome. Instead of pushing air with a diaphragm moving back and forth, a pleated membrane squeezes and releases air between its folds, moving several times the volume of air over a far shorter excursion.
Treble without hardness
In practice that means faster transient response and less inertia: cymbals open and decay cleanly, vocal consonants read clearly without becoming sharp, and detail survives at low listening levels.
A wide soundstage
The AMT's tall radiating strip spreads treble horizontally far more than a conventional dome. The stereo image does not collapse the moment you move off centre, which matters in a living room or an office where nobody sits permanently in the ideal spot. Combined with the DSP and tuned crossovers, voices stay centred and instruments hold their places.
Control on one knob
Every control sits on a single rotary knob on the front of the powered speaker, with rose gold detailing that follows the cabinet finish.
One knob for volume, source and tone
The knob sets volume, selects the input and opens the tone settings, so day-to-day use needs no app and no display. The infrared remote supplied covers the same from the listening position.
Hand-built cabinets
The cabinets are built by hand, and the walnut finish with rose gold detailing keeps a discreet profile beside a television or on a desk. A 1/4"-20 thread in the base of each speaker means the pair goes just as easily onto floor stands or wall brackets, and silicone rubber feet are included for placing them on furniture.
