The Studio SM100 speaker is the replacement for the original Studio 100 which was in production for over 20 years until 2013.The first Studio 100 was originally made for both domestic and studio use, however it quickly became a favourite near field monitor in professional studios worldwide.The cabinet of the latest Studio SM100 remains the same as the original model, however all other parameters have been improved.The Studio SM100 now has a bass driver that looks similar to the original but has a rubber surround for longevity and power handling and sits in a ProAc basket with a dust cap. The 1-inch silk domed tweeter has a front plate to lower distortion and a roll surround.The SM100’s crossover was designed to give the overall sound quality of the original model but with a slightly smoother sound, making it ideal for long listening sessions.The SM100 combines both studio monitor levels of accuracy with the legendary ProAc musicality.

Small appearance with large stage presence. Meet the Response DB1. With the DB1, ProAc has achieved in a small speaker, a sound normally associated with a larger speaker, particularly the bass response. The DB1 cabinet is made from different thicknesses of high density MDF and further damped by bitumen to control cabinet resonance. A newly designed long throw bass driver was used and ported at the rear. The cone is made from pulp and mica which is then elastic coated and fitted with our ProAc acrylic pole damping phase plug. The crossover was designed to give a flatter response at high levels and the tweeter is the ProAc 1-inch silk dome similar to that used in other ProAc Response models.The midrange and high frequencies of the DB1 are superb and in the ProAc tradition, low in colouration and high in detail. The bass driver gives a wonderful bass quality, punchy and extended, similar to that which is experienced in a larger enclosure. The resulting sound stage is also comparable to that of a larger speaker. Following the success of the Tablette 10, ProAc decided to develop the design even further and produce a Signature version.The Tablette 10 Signature shares the attributes of the Tablette 10 but has a larger more projected midrange giving excellent sound stage with a feeling of size, which is often missing in small loudspeakers.A great deal of time was taken to design a new bass driver with an excel magnet system and our own solid copper phase plug.After many months of measuring and listening by Stewart Tyler, the hand-built crossover was fine-tuned to obtain the best results from the bass driver. The end product is a speaker similar to the Tablette 10 in sound but, on certain types of music and voice reproduction, advantages of the Tablette 10 Signature can be easily heard. As with the Tablette 10, the Signature can be used with its back against the wall or alternatively, on good quality stands. The speakers Aegis Evo 3 from the company Acoustic Energy Placed on the floor, so no base is needed. In this category usually belong the main speakers of a sound system. The power and impedance of them are 150W RMS and 8Ω respectively, which means they can be connected to an amplifier with the corresponding characteristics. This is a speaker 3 way, meaning the sound frequencies are reproduced by three speakers, one tweeter for the high frequencies, one mid-range speaker, and one woofer for the low frequencies.

The tweeter, mid and bass drivers on the AE520 are constructed from carbon fibre, for a lightweight yet stiff cone, the ideal properties for a speaker driver. Carbon fibre is better damped than other hard dome tweeter materials, providing a lightning fast response combined with a natural sound. The aluminium WDT waveguide on the tweeter allows for optimum dispersion, and further reduces vibrations being passed on to the tweeter.The AE520 speakers use two 125mm mid drivers, alongside three 125mm bass drivers, incorporating new oversized 35mm voice coils with very high motor force, to produce a dynamic yet highly controlled bass response. The mid woofers have an optimised motor and suspension system, ensuring mid-range definition and low distortion. The lightweight carbon fibre cone increases musical clarity, letting you hear your music with startling neutrality.With a Mid Tweeter Mid (MTM) driver layout, with three lower bass drivers, the Acoustic Energy floorstanders utilise a 3-way crossover with high voltage polypropylene film capacitors creating optimum dispersion through a smaller acoustic source size. Showcased at The Bristol Hi-Fi Show in 2019, the top-tier series introduces carbon fibre drivers to the Gloucestershire-based loudspeaker specialist’s continuously evolving portfolio.  The company believes that the lightweight material delivers a step up on pistonic power and precision over its ceramic/aluminium drivers. Its low weight to strength ratio brings improved driver self-damping and the material has been used in mid and bass driver designs elsewhere. Acoustic Energy is one of a few to also use it in the design of its 25mm dome tweeter. This decision presumably helps to achieve cohesive voicing between the tweeter and the dual 125mm drivers in the AE509’s two-way, mid-tweeter-mid/bass (MTM) configuration.  Super structureAt the time of launch, 500 Series designer and managing director Matt Spandl commented: “We have spent considerable time developing the carbon fibre transducers and perfecting our unique cabinet technology. The results have been proven and I’m confident we’ve developed a new flagship range with exceptional sound, build and value.” The new series introduced the AE500 standmount priced at £1,050 (£1,250 with dedicated stands) and AE509 floorstander at £2,400. The range has since been bolstered by the AE520 floorstander introduced last year priced at £3,650 – an imposing 1.13m tall six-driver arrangement in a three-way configuration offering greater power handling. Lust for lifeThe AE509 claims 175W power handling and is suitable for medium to large-sized listening spaces. It feels understated in my living room and I love the eye-catching lustre of the black high-gloss finish and the way the slim, modern styling contrasts gracefully with the decor of my home. After a decade of trials and development, the AYA loudspeakers are housed in a unique, UK manufactured cabinet moulded from glass-reinforced cement. The process of moulding the AYA loudspeaker cabinets was developed alongside a UK-based company who are best known for bespoke concrete furniture and installations.Rega fans out there will know that we have always questioned the marketing and science surrounding turntables. Experiments and research have allowed us to debunk most commonly held beliefs and use real engineering to produce world beating sound quality at sensible prices. However, the loudspeaker market is very different because a valid scientific and engineering discipline exists which in turn has created hundreds of competitors in the loudspeaker marketplace. The success of many loudspeakers depends on powerful marketing, eye watering advertising budgets (of which Rega spends zero) and financial inducements to retailers. The funds that most loudspeaker companies would spend on marketing, Rega has put it all into research and development to achieve a totally unique cabinet construction.*Loudspeaker grilles are available as an optional extra and will be supplied separately. To keep costs as low as possible and avoid unnecessary waste, we have chosen not to include the grilles as standard as the majority of customers choose not to use them. These grilles are simple attached by magnet to the front plate screws to prevent cone or tweeter damage. They are covered in quality speaker cloth material minimising any impact a fitted grille may have. Images of the grille are available in the gallery section.Not unlike real wood veneer, GRC has its own characteristics. Each cabinet will be uniquely different due to the manufacturing process. Changes in shade and small surface holes in the cement are common and an expected part of the design and are not a fault. We feel these features add character to these unique cabinets.
