The tweeter, mid and bass drivers on the AE520 are constructed from carbon fibre, for a lightweight yet stiff cone, the ideal properties for a speaker driver. Carbon fibre is better damped than other hard dome tweeter materials, providing a lightning fast response combined with a natural sound. The aluminium WDT waveguide on the tweeter allows for optimum dispersion, and further reduces vibrations being passed on to the tweeter. The AE520 speakers use two 125mm mid drivers, alongside three 125mm bass drivers, incorporating new oversized 35mm voice coils with very high motor force, to produce a dynamic yet highly controlled bass response. The mid woofers have an optimised motor and suspension system, ensuring mid-range definition and low distortion. The lightweight carbon fibre cone increases musical clarity, letting you hear your music with startling neutrality. With a Mid Tweeter Mid (MTM) driver layout, with three lower bass drivers, the Acoustic Energy floorstanders utilise a 3-way crossover with high voltage polypropylene film capacitors creating optimum dispersion through a smaller acoustic source size. The AE520 cabinets are constructed of new Resonance Suppression Composite, evolved from Acoustic Energy’s Reference Series, with constrained layer composite to reduce unwanted vibrations which might colour the sound. Finished in high gloss black, white or walnut veneer, the clean lines of these speakers will suit any interior style.Acoustic Energy AE520 Floorstanding Speakers featuresCarbon Fibre drivers for a lightweight yet stiff materialFast response and damped 25mm tweeterAluminium WDT waveguide provides optimum dispersion of high frequenciesTwo 125mm carbon fibre mid driversThree 125mm carbon fibre bass drivers35mm oversized voice coils produce high dynamic range with controlled bass responseMid Tweeter Mid/bass driver layout with 3-way crossoverResonance Suppression Composite cabinets reduce vibrations and colour

The handsome AE509 is the more living room-friendly model of the two floorstanding loudspeaker designs in Acoustic Energy’s flagship 500 series. Showcased at The Bristol Hi-Fi Show in 2019, the top-tier series introduces carbon fibre drivers to the Gloucestershire-based loudspeaker specialist’s continuously evolving portfolio. The company believes that the lightweight material delivers a step up on pistonic power and precision over its ceramic/aluminium drivers. Its low weight to strength ratio brings improved driver self-damping and the material has been used in mid and bass driver designs elsewhere. Acoustic Energy is one of a few to also use it in the design of its 25mm dome tweeter. This decision presumably helps to achieve cohesive voicing between the tweeter and the dual 125mm drivers in the AE509’s two-way, mid-tweeter-mid/bass (MTM) configuration. Super structureAt the time of launch, 500 Series designer and managing director Matt Spandl commented: “We have spent considerable time developing the carbon fibre transducers and perfecting our unique cabinet technology. The results have been proven and I’m confident we’ve developed a new flagship range with exceptional sound, build and value.” The new series introduced the AE500 standmount priced at £1,050 (£1,250 with dedicated stands) and AE509 floorstander at £2,400. The range has since been bolstered by the AE520 floorstander introduced last year priced at £3,650 – an imposing 1.13m tall six-driver arrangement in a three-way configuration offering greater power handling. Lust for lifeThe AE509 claims 175W power handling and is suitable for medium to large-sized listening spaces. It feels understated in my living room and I love the eye-catching lustre of the black high-gloss finish and the way the slim, modern styling contrasts gracefully with the decor of my home. White piano gloss and American walnut wood veneer finishes are also available. Texture and lightAcoustic Energy is one of the first to choose carbon fibre as the material for a dome tweeterRemoving the cloth grille held in place by magnets hidden beneath the surface of the front baffle reveals twin 125mm drivers at the top section of the cabinet. Each driver has a 35mm voice coil and a metal dust cap. One driver is located above the 25mm tweeter (with surrounding waveguide), and the other below. The texture of the carbon fibre cones shimmer under my living room lights and the overall aesthetic is one of understatement, with no flashy accents to unbalance the speaker’s style. The 18mm-thick cabinet is a three-layer composite sandwich construction comprising MDF and rubber. The resonance reducing technique evolved from the company’s Reference Series and requires less internal bracing. A bass reflex slot port sits at the top of the rear baffle helping to make the AE509 unfussy about placement, making it flexible enough to be sited within close proximity to boundary walls. The crossover circuitry is housed in a carefully tuned separate 3l box section at the base of the cabinet. The AE509’s frequency response is quoted at 32Hz – 28kHz (+/- 6dB) with the handover between mid/bass and tweeter drivers at 2.9kHz. Speaker impedance is rated at 6ohm. Standing strong The aluminium bracing at the base of the cabinet incorporates four large spikes to aid floor decoupling and reduce room interaction. This also widens the speaker’s footprint to help stabilise the cabinet’s slightly top-heavy proportions.

The Radiance 1’s are the entry level loudspeakers in the Radiance Series. This is, of course, just in stature – every aspect of the “1’s” performance is simply stunning given their compact dimensions. These are speakers which don’t have to try to impress with a “big” sound from a small box, they just impress full-stop.If Home Theatre is more your thing, the “1’s” are more than up to the job of providing rear channel sound in a Radiance 5.1 set-up – in fact they are just as capable providing all 5 main channels if space is at a premium!
A full-range 3-way model offering huge power handling and extremely low thermal compression, while remaining detailed, accurate and evenly balanced with all musical genres. The “3’s” also form the main front speakers in the Radiance Cinema system, matching perfectly with the Centre, Sub and “1’s” to form a formidable 5.1 package (or any configuration you may prefer!)Engineered by AE to give exceptional performance with music or film.

The glass fibres that make up the construction reduce the weight whilst increasing the structural integrity of this 2.5 way band pass enclosure. This technique creates the perfect loudspeaker enclosure that enhances performance whilst offering exceptional value for money. The process of moulding the AYA loudspeaker cabinets was developed alongside a UK-based company who are best known for bespoke concrete furniture and installations.Rega fans out there will know that we have always questioned the marketing and science surrounding turntables. Experiments and research have allowed us to debunk most commonly held beliefs and use real engineering to produce world beating sound quality at sensible prices. However, the loudspeaker market is very different because a valid scientific and engineering discipline exists which in turn has created hundreds of competitors in the loudspeaker marketplace. The success of many loudspeakers depends on powerful marketing, eye watering advertising budgets (of which Rega spends zero) and financial inducements to retailers. The funds that most loudspeaker companies would spend on marketing, Rega has put it all into research and development to achieve a totally unique cabinet construction.*Loudspeaker grilles are available as an optional extra and will be supplied separately. To keep costs as low as possible and avoid unnecessary waste, we have chosen not to include the grilles as standard as the majority of customers choose not to use them. These grilles are simple attached by magnet to the front plate screws to prevent cone or tweeter damage. They are covered in quality speaker cloth material minimising any impact a fitted grille may have. Images of the grille are available in the gallery section. Not unlike real wood veneer, GRC has its own characteristics. Each cabinet will be uniquely different due to the manufacturing process. Changes in shade and small surface holes in the cement are common and an expected part of the design and are not a fault. We feel these features add character to these unique cabinets.

Some other manufacturers cartridges may have a deeper body than Rega cartridges, these will sometimes require the use of the three-point spacer to allow clearance of the rear of the cartridge from the vinyl. When Rega arms are fitted to turntables from other manufacturers it may be necessary to add our Rega arm spacers to achieve the correct arm height.Note: On Rega turntables, spacers should not be necessary unless you are you using an exceptionally deep-bodied cartridge from another manufacturer.Arm height or V.T.A adjustment can be a controversial subject. Rega believes that the integrity of the arm fixing onto the arm mounting board is much more important than the questionable facility of arm adjustment. The arm should be reasonably parallel to the record surface or slightly lower at the mounting. The only time a spacer is necessary to raise the arm height is if the rear of a cartridge is hitting the record whilst playing.

The Ultimate in Rega PerformanceThe Planar 10 is also fitted with a bespoke ceramic oxide platter which is diamond cut during manufacture for ultimate accuracy and speed stability. The Rega 24 V synchronous motor is controlled by our most advanced outboard power supply, the P10-PSU. This supply delivers the ultimate in motor vibration reduction, electronic fine speed adjustment and the convenience of electronic speed change. The Planar 10 is designed to deliver the ultimate in Rega performance by extracting more information from the vinyl groove than ever before.KEY FEATURESRB3000 tonearmApheta 3 or Aphelion 2 factory fitted (optional)Ceramic Oxide diamond cut platterDB technology with ceramic top braceTancast 8 foamcore plinthP10 custom matched PSUEBLT Advanced drive beltLifetime warranty against manufacture defectsULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT PLINTHThe Planar 10 is the third Rega turntable constructed using our latest technology the ultra-lightweight Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core (a material developed for the aerospace industry). This material is sandwiched between two layers of HPL (high-pressure laminate). HPL is exceptionally thin and extremely rigid. This new construction makes the new Planar 10 skeletal plinth 30% lighter than the original RP10 while offering increased rigidity over the previous model.DB TECHNOLOGY (DOUBLE BRACE TECHNOLOGY)“Mass absorbs energy - lost energy equals lost music”! A super lightweight plinth combined with a ceramic top brace and phenolic resin bottom brace mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing) forms a structurally sound, “stressed beam,” assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances which will add unnatural distortions to the music. Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The tonearm and cartridge must be able to read accurately, directly from the platter. This unique Rega double brace solution enables this. The use of braces instead of the complete skin allows increased thickness in these key areas while providing further weight reduction to the plinth which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.RB3000 TONEARMRega is renowned for the quality of its tonearm bearing assemblies. In particular the accurate manufacturing of our bearing housing and bearing spindles. Technical characteristics such as “roundness” and “parallelity” are critical.Over the past three years, Rega has found a new manufacturing process which improves on all these characteristics resulting in a micron perfect bearing fit. The RB3000 is the first Rega arm to benefit from these improvements. The entire tonearm structure is designed to have the minimum of mechanical joints while using the stiffest materials in all critical areas. The tolerance of the RB3000 tonearm is so tight that no adhesive is used at any point throughout the construction. Our latest low mass, precision engineered, vertical bearing assembly has been manufactured to further complement the inherent design philosophy of the Planar 10 turntable. The RB3000 tonearm uses our advanced, preloaded zero tolerance bearing assembly adjusted to less than 1000th of a mm. This gives friction-free movement and zero levels of unwanted play. Simply put, friction-free bearings with no play enable ridges in the record groove of less than a micron to be read. The RB3000 also uses our latest award-winning, aluminium, Rega arm tube (each one of which is meticulously hand polished, keeping mass to an absolute minimum) which was redesigned to redistribute mass and further reduce stresses and resonances. This advanced design tube increases the stiffness and rigidity of the overall assembly whilst reducing stress on the bearings even further.HUB BEARING ASSEMBLYThis latest design demonstrates attention to detail and modern CNC engineering advances. This allows new compromises, bringing Rega’s main bearing design closer than ever to the unachievable ideal. The Planar 10 uses a new low mass central bearing assembly. A single piece machined aluminium sub-platter and hardened tool steel spindle run inside a custom brass housing designed with improved mechanical integrity. The complete assembly is cleverly mounted within the chassis to eradicate unwanted potential energy being transferred or stored in the plinth.CERAMIC PLATTERThe P10 uses a custom ceramic, flywheel effect platter. The platter is produced from ceramic oxide powder which is compressed, fired and diamond cut to ensure perfect accuracy and flatness across the surface. The latest platter features a modified construction with improved coupling to the sub-platter.24 V LOW NOISE MOTOR ASSEMBLYThe Planar 10 uses Rega’s latest generation, 24 V, synchronous, low vibration motor technology. Uniquely mounted using the highest level of coupling while retaining higher vibration isolation than any previous model, this new motor mounting technique (mounted from the bottom) has been taken directly from the ultimate Rega turntable, the Naiad. This unique mounting method removes all stress from the motor body whilst holding the drive pulley perfectly still. This enables better speed stability and accuracy from the turntable. The reduced vibration and more rigid mounting delivers superior drive from the new EBLT drive belts. Each motor is hand-tuned to match its own custom-matched PL10 PSU power supply before fitting to the turntable to optimise the anti-vibration circuit.EBLT DRIVE BELTSFor three years Rega has been researching and developing with chemists the use of a bespoke new rubber compound for drive belts. Using a specialised curing system, the new drive belt offers superior consistency of modulus (a constant representing the degree to which a substance has a particular property, especially elasticity). These new belts are manufactured on Rega designed, state of the art, super-accurate tools (inspired by working with the manufacturer of high-tech Formula 1 engine parts) which produce ‘perfectly round’ and ‘dimensionally accurate’ belts, critical for perfect speed stability.PL10 PSUThe PL10 PSU offers the ultimate in motor control stability, convenient electronic speed change, advanced anti-vibration control and user adjustable electronic fine speed adjustment to ensure total accuracy and control over the life of the motor.Housed in Rega’s latest custom-designed case, the PL10 PSU is dedicated to running our 24v, low noise motor as quietly and as accurately as possible. The speed and control of the motor is achieved by using a new DSP (Digital Signal Processing) generator built upon a high stability crystal. This device will divide the accurate square wave from the crystal to the exact frequency required to turn the platter at the selected speed. The DSP core will also generate a near perfect sinusoidal waveform to power the motor. Factory set vibration removal and fine speed adjustments are then made to the power supply to tune each motor for optimal performance.DUST COVERThe outer frame of the previous model has now been removed and a new stylish, removable, single piece dustcover has been introduced further reducing the overall mass of the turntable.

Featuring the Furman IT-REF 16 E I Discrete Symmetrical AC Power Source (16A, 230 VAC). This power source filter is built with many revolutionary technologies such as Linear Filtration Technology (LiFT), Discrete Symmetrical Balanced Power, and Power Factor Technology. These technological developments help eliminate equipment failure, reduce differential AC noise, and extreme voltage spikes. This conditioner can be used in studios, live sound, broadcast facilities, and home theaters.Furman’s filtration technology (LiFT) suppresses linear AC noise evenly across a very wide bandwidth. Resulting in a lower noise floor for the user’s audio system, better picture on video displays, and protection from the possibility of data corruption or loss. It dramatically reduces differential AC noise while feeding the users devices clean, filtered AC power. The IT-REF 16 E I ensures consistent peak performance from the user’s equipment. The Discrete Symmetrically Balanced Power technology from Furman splits incoming voltage (230V on the line terminal and 0V on the neutral and ground) into perfect halves on the transformer’s output. With 115V on the line and 115V on the neutral, the new center-tapped ground remains at 0V AC. Ensuring that connected equipment is free of AC ground contamination from the power amplifier. Furman's newly refined Dual-Screen Transformers also turnout the widest bandwidth of noise-reduction possible. Which enables the IT-REF 16 E I to provide unprecedented levels of audio and video detail.Furman has also designed Power Factor Technology to help power amplifiers to accurately reproduce audio signals while sounding their best. This technology does so by supplying a momentary current reservoir which provides over 80 amps of peak current and lowers the AC line impedance for power amplifiers.Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) offers protection to connected equipment from daily exposure to, even the highest level, of spikes and surges. SMP absorbs the surges without deterioration of the circuit or contamination to the ground line. It maximizes the longevity of connected equipment, provides peak performance, and minimizes the risk of downtime or failure. With all of these technologies and features, the IT-REF 16 E I is a smart addition to any AV system. Bringing faster sonic transients, crisper colors, greater gray and black scale definition to the users displays. While relaying pure harmonics and ambiance in the systems audio.
